Two complemetary exhibits present the elegant and masterful works of Islamic calligraphy alongside the tools used to create them. Writing the Word of God is devoted to a selection of folios from copies of the Qur´an, the preeminent context for the practice of calligraphy in the historical Islamic lands.

Poetry and Prayer: Islamic Manuscripts at the Walters Art Museum

This exhibition features a number of masterpieces of illuminated and illustrated manuscripts produced in Islamic lands from the ninth to the nineteenth century. The exhibit includes various devotional, scientific, historical, epic and poetic texts.

Items in the exhibit are part of a project to digitize all of the Islamic manuscripts in the collections of the Walters Art Museum. They can be viewed at the Islamic Manuscripts

Oo! Ah! Both of these look wonderful. Alas, I can't travel to see the exhibits, but at least the digital and book versions are possible. Thanks, papyri. :)
