We're only a few days away from the Giller Bash and the announcement of the winner so I thought we should have a discussion thread. The five books on the shortlist are:
Minds of Winter by Ed O'Loughlin
I Am a Truck by Michelle Winters
Bellevue Square by Michael Redhill
Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson
Transit by Rachel Cusk

I've read Bellevue Square and Son of a Trickster and, of those two, my vote would go to Bellevue Square. Robinson's novel started off strong but moved into magic and weird stuff and left me cold. Bellevue Square is a little strange too but it is all plausible if mentally unbalanced.

Anyone else read any of these?

So Bellevue Square won the Giller this year and I am pleased by that. I didn't get to watch or listen to the awards ceremony as it was happening but it's on the CBC website so I've been making my way through it. I'm not sure I will read any of the other short listed books. Does anyone think I've missed something great?
