I was just in Nigeria in Akata Warrior, a worthy successor to her Akata Witch. Go Sunny!
5Narilka
Continuing my tour of the Rain Wilds in a City of Dragons.

Still reading Fortress in the Eye of Time. Gotta keep it up, my library has the Fortress books but only 20 day loans. 15 days left!
7Niko
Spending some time in the shared-world of Liavek, with The Players of Luck.
8Sakerfalcon
I'm visiting the Fae Under the pendulum sun.
9seitherin
Added The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden to my reading rotation.

Just finished Palimpsest by Catherynne Valente. Lots of striking language & imagery -- but the same also got a bit overwrought at times. A matter of taste, I guess -- how much of a good thing is too much?
11Sakerfalcon
I've left the Fae for The house of binding thorns in the ruins of Paris.
12curioussquared
Back in the familiar land of Tortall with some of my favorite people in Tortall: A Spy's Guide.
13seitherin
Added Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente to my reading rotation.
14Sakerfalcon
I'm in New York with An unkindness of magicians.
15Narilka
Wrapping up my tour of the Rain Wilds with Blood of Dragons.

Finished The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. Enjoyed the story.
17Niko
Back to fighting Napoleon (this time on British soil) with Temeraire and the other dragons in Victory of Eagles.
18Jarandel
I was in Pittsburgh, USA, in the urban fantasy Catalyst (Barbant) that makes a fairly nice if not extremely in-depth use of the city's industrial past.

I have finally boarded the Wheel of Time train, and am about 30% of the way through The Eye of the World! It's pretty good, although the names (and especially the history of all the names) has been hard to follow. Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire had much more coherent "worlds" IMHO, although, TBF, I am just starting the series. The writing style also seems to be slanted toward young adult - which makes sense given the age of the main characters - but it surprised me going into the series with ZERO knowledge or expectations.

I'm starting Brandon Sanderson's Words of Radiance.
21Jarandel
I was sailing in the Wefrivain archipelago with Gerard and Silveo in Embers, as they go about their mistress the High Priestess Morchella's business.

Took a brief detour to visit The Luck of Relian Kru, but even though I've been a huuuuuge fan of most of Paula Volsky's work, I'm afraid I'm DNF-ing this one before I even hit the 100 pages mark. It's an early title of hers and very reminiscent of Jack Vance's Dying Earth stories, in the writing style and general tone and weirdness. I recently gave up on THOSE after giving them a much harder try, so once I realized that Relian Kru was hitting me in the same way, I had already done the mental legwork to convince myself that this kind of writing just isn't my cup of tea.
Moving on to The Hallowed Hunt. Very curious to see why this book isn't talked about as much (or as glowingly) as The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. With what little I've read so far, it's grabbing me just fine.

>19 drmamm: very interested in your viewpoint.
I finished Fortress in the Eye of Time. Several times in the book I was completely drawn in and holding my breath as the writing unfolded. I've read three Cherryh books in the last two months, and I appreciate them a lot, but I think Cherryh goes on the "too many words" pile for me right now, along with Erikson and Hobb. Also, I find women missing keenly. As a kid I read lots of Anne McCaffrey, Harry Harrison, Andre Norton, Ursula leGuin. I think these books had multiple perspectives, or at least a spread of character types who had influence and agency. Even if the women were told from a male point of view, they influenced things. Rather than 'diverse' or 'inclusive' I think this is only realistic. Then I had daughters who wanted to hear about girls in books all the time. So maybe my perspective is skewed, and maybe I am reaching for what is not realistic but idealistic. I am only talking about Foreigner series and Fortress. I want to be fair, McCaffrey writes about the problems associated with male readers and getting to be a published writer in the 1960s-70s. I can see that the Pride of Chanur ticks my boxes.

>29 cremorn:, will be interesting to hear your thoughts, if that's your first time. I don't think it's aging well when it comes to M-F relations.
