Recently I finished Gordon Rhea's fifth volume in his Overland Campaign series: On to Petersburg: Grant and Lee, June 4-15, 1864 as well as the very interesting Spies, Scouts, and Secrets in the Gettysburg Campaign: How the Critical Role of Intelligence Impacted the Outcome of Lee's Invasion of the North, June-July 1863. Both recommended.

I just finished Engineering Victory: The Union Siege of Vicksburg by Justin S. Solonick. It looks at the siege engineering and implementation activities of the Union army. As a different approach it is satisfying, but the author tends to repeat himself a bit and the writing is a bit overblown too. However, those are minor nits, the book is a pretty interesting narrative otherwise.

I've just begun reading "Mothers of Invention, Women of the Slaveholding South in the Civil War". I find it intriguing that author Drew Gilpin Faust, a southern woman, is now President of Harvard. So far very interesting book; but as yet, I am not far in.
