Since I have recently discovered Mr. Trollope and his works, one of my reading goals for this year is to read as many of his books as I can get my hands on. I have already read The Warden in the 'Chronicles of Barsetshire' series, so I am going to continue in that series before I pick up any of the other works/series. At my local Goodwill today, I got the last book in the Barchester series The Last Chronicle of Barset, although it will probably be a while before I get to it - I want to read the other books in the series first.

What recommendations are there for reading his works after the Barsetshire series?

I enjoyed The Claverings immensely and Lady Anna had me guessing at the ending (not always the case with AT). The Kellys and the O'Kellys has some very funny scenes and a good villain. I haven't read the other Irish novels.

Rachel Ray is a straightforward love story but with memorable characters. The eponymous hero of Dr. Wortle's School makes that work very worthwhile. I'd hold off on The American Senator and Orley Farm. And The Way We Live Now is challenging but brilliant. Try some of the short stories, or Clergymen of the Church of England to mix things up a bit.

I've read only Can You Forgive Her? from the Palliser novels and found it slow going.

Thanks for the recommendations stringcat3! I checked the second book in the 'Chronicles of Barsetshire' out of the library the other day, so I am on my Trolloping way for 2008.

Welcome to the group, alcottacre!

I've read all in the Barsetshire series, except the Last Chronicle which is on my TBR pile. Outside of this series I've read The Way We Live Now which I found to a bit slow to get going but excellent nonetheless. Dr Wortle's School is nice (short and sweet) and my current Trollope, He Knew He Was Right is very enjoyable.

I just started reading Barchester Towers today and so far I have enjoyed it. I am really looking forward to exploring the rest of Trollope's (imaginary) world.

Thanks for the welcome!
