I don't blog, but I do enjoy reading the blogs of just-published authors as they describe the process of getting published, the anticipation, the unexpected things that happen. In SFF, Patrick Rothfuss was fantastic in his early days, and Brandon Sanderson is still often in touch with that perspective even now.

Hello, we have started blogging because our marketing consultant for our new book recommended it to get our name out there. My husband is the writer/author and I take care of all the rest like blogging, internet, social media, etc. Quite the learning curve for me. Here is our blog address: https://michaelcopple.blog

I started blogging not long ago. Speaking only for myself, it's difficult for writers of fiction to pin point a particular subject to blog about. I suppose the creative mind has so many different interest it's hard to settle on one thing to blog about. When I started my blog, http://www.lorakempka.com, I wanted to dig into southern fiction writers and their work. But then I changed up a bit so the blog wouldn't come across as dry. Not everyone is into southern fiction or southern literature and by sticking to one subject I was excluding possible readers.
With that said, I tweaked my content to include some gardening and related working with nature to the writing process. I have picked up a few more followers thanks to twitter!

I blog! Here is mine - http://ketaskeep.blogspot.com/ I'm a romance author. My stories vary from contemporary to historical. Mostly a ghost will appear too. Sometimes in passing. Sometimes central to the plot.
Kempka, I think sharing snippets of information about your real life helps. It makes authors appear more approachable. Plus it's fun to get a peek behind the scenes. :)

I have recently started a blog. I am still feeling my way on what to post, some of my musings, book reviews, details of my own books and anything else that comes to mind.
I may review other authors work in due course and add a free story, who knows ...
I don't really know what people would be interested in reading until (or if) I get any feedback, still I'll probably happily go on speaking to myself for years ...
I am currently posting a weekly blog describing my life in my late teens during the seventies working aboard cargo ships and oil tankers, entitled 'An Accidental Life'

I post around monthly, usually a little collection of tweet-sized stories (based on a Twitter prompt game called #vss365), and occasional interviews or theatre/opera reviews.
As a taster, here's one of my tiny stories:
At the wake, the mage scattered flowers around the hero’s urn. “He had a will of iron.”
“And nerves of steel,” intoned the rogue.
“If you ask me,” muttered the elderly priest, “he had brains of cotton wool. Going up against a dragon like that.”

As a new author, I decided to do a blog on my website and link it to Goodreads and Amazon. At first I wasn't sure if I would blog much (hence my first post), then it was just a good way to get some thoughts down before they drifted away. People read a few of them and enjoyed what I wrote so I guess it is now a casual extension of my writing, and it showcases my odd sense of humor...

I have sporadically blogged since my teens, but last year I finally committed to keeping a more consistent blog, which tends to fall by the wayside during term time now that I teach full time, but I update semi-regularly still. Like others here, I use it to store a lot of ideas and unfinished drafts which I keep to myself, but I do post completed work and share snippets here and there as well as journal my experiences or thoughts from time to time. I would like to start doing some reviews to put up on there in the near future too, mostly to support my fellow indie authors.

Question: What the heck is the RSS feed? If seen it, it's on my blog page, when I click on it I get a page of HTML. If you know how to maximize blog pages let me know!
21LShelby
An RSS feed is a version of your blog that is designed to be transferred by electronic subscription rather than read in place on your site.
So if my blog is available to be read in goodreads, for example, (which it is) then what is being read on goodreads is actually the rss feed version.
Most modern blogging platforms provide an rss feed as a matter of course., and the webbrowser knows that, looks for it, and offers the option for you to view that version instead of the original if so desired. Thus the RSS button.
I'm not sure what is meant by "maximizing blog pages".

Well you answered one question. I wasn't sure how to do this:" So if my blog is available to be read in goodreads, for example, (which it is) then what is being read on goodreads is actually the rss feed version.", so now that eliminates having to post my blog in two places-thanks!
I don't know what I mean by maximizing... :) I guess, just like gaining readership for books, gaining blog readers is just a matter of time.

Hmm...
I have ended up at peoples's blogs because they said something on someone else's blog that made them seem like a kindred spirit. So commenting on other people's blogs might be worth trying? Just be careful not to spread out too thin. People are more likely to click on your name the tenth time you say something that amuses them than the first time.
