Hi everyone!

Please join in on a group author read of Barbara Pym this month!

Barbara Pym was a British author who wrote from about 1950-1970s. I love her quiet but insightful novels.

Anyone interested in joining in?

I'd like to, but I don't think I'll have time. :( I've never read anything by Barbara Pym, but I've heard so many good things!

I hope to read Quartet in Autumn but my reading has been a bit slow recently so no guarantees...

I very much enjoyed Excellent Women if anyone is wondering what to try.

I really enjoyed Quartet in Autumn. I also loved Excellent Women, Jane and Prudence, No Fond Return of Love and A Glass of Blessings.

I have Crampton Hodnet, Some Tame Gazelle, and Less Than Angels on the shelf and will try to get to one of those soon.

I ended up getting Less Than Angels from the library -- wonderful!!

I guess from the little bit that I have read about Pym that this was pretty autobiographical.

Now on to Quartet in Autumn

I really liked Quartet in Autumn though it was pretty different from the other 2 I had read (Excellent Women and Less than Angels) -- more dark though still with some humor (black comedy) and a theme about unmarried women. Marcia made me want to laugh and to cry simultaneously!

I think Quartet in autumn was the first book of hers that I read. I agree that it is different. I think she wrote it significantly later than the rest of her novels.

I liked the 2 Pym books I read so much that on the last day of November I started Jane and Prudence -- obviously too late to really make it for this group read but better late than never :-)

>8 leslie.98: I really liked that one! I'm terrible and haven't gotten to one yet this month! Hopefully soon, though.
