What is going on with user profiles being wrongly flagged

I was puzzled, a while back, when I saw that someone who'd posted to a thread had been removed. It wasn't a poster I knew much about, or recognized, and the actually comment posted was still there, so I just thought it was odd, but moved on.
Now it's someone I know (or at least recognize as a long time, and contributing, member).

Second profile:

I already know that Lorannen is out today and tomorrow, and will be dropping this in Tim's lap. It's just too weird. There was a profile that got flagged the other day, and stayed stubbornly flagged, but it finally was resolved (and was a different case).
Something's broken on the flagging end, is my guess.
There are probably other profiles out there that are now "removed" even though the member may not be expecting it.

We're looking into it. Neither are spam removed--the codes are different. Either they requested it, or, I'm thinking, someone here made a mistake.
I'm making both live for now.

I was wondering about EnsignRamsey myself, didn't see that coming and wondered why the trigger was pulled.

I too noticed the RIP next to EnsignRamsey in Talk post view, but on opening the thread his message was there normally.

After checking, we have confirmed at least the first was intentional. I am unsure about the latter, but I suspect the same.

I've been away from LT the last couple days, but I did want to chime in and let people know that Jesse intentionally closed his account. I'm in contact with him off list, and hoping I can entice him back.
The RIP tombstone that appears is a little alarming, though. Maybe there should be a different graphic for people who close their own accounts so that the rest of us know they weren't kick off the island, but chose to go?

>7 southernbooklady: I would really prefer that myself. As I'd said, I didn't recognize the first profile, and thought (after looking through the thread) that he'd closed his account himself, but EnsignRamsey? I don't understand, and it doesn't make sense (to me, anyway).

Ah. I didn't know that happened for non-spam accounts. (It only happens for spam-flaggers, I think.) I'll get on it later.

Yeah, something other than the Tombstone of Spammer needs to denote when someone has just closed their account.

Nah. That suggests going off in a huff. While I'm sure some people close their accounts for that reason, not everyone who leaves does so in that way.

Not having seen the tombstone in this case, nor the "thread" everyone but me seems to know about (as referenced in 5 and 8), I'd prefer there to be an indication *on the profile* that an account was closed by the user rather than by staff.

Agreed. And you are not the only one who didn't see the tombstone and was unaware of the thread.

In this case, I don't agree. The icon is supposed to convey specific information: is this person gone voluntarily, or because he's a spammer? So allowing those who leave voluntarily to use any icon they want would defeat the purpose.

That little tombstone icon shows up regularly in my topics list and I've always associated it with "nixed for bad behavior." So it was disconcerting, to say the least, to see it next to Jesse's name when I knew it meant nothing of the sort. Far from it. I don't think it should be there in cases like his.
24gilroy
>18 lilithcat: Maybe more fitting for the site then -- a closed book.
26Lyndatrue
>24 gilroy: I like the idea of a closed book for accounts closed voluntarily. The reason it was closed doesn't matter, but I don't like seeing someone who was a contributing member lumped in with the vermin of the world.
It would also be preferable to see "Closed at member's request" instead of "Removed" on the profile.

When I logged on yesterday and clicked on Talk the oldie sci-fi thread in Science Fiction was high up, with EnsignRamsey showing as the last post and the RIP icon next to his name. On opening the thread his post was showing up normally, though; I assumed it was a glitch of some kind. Pretty sure it happened to someone before too.

Now @kristi.test.1 has the RIP icon. I hope what they were testing is this behaviour.
