How about the young woman in The Christopher Killer? Young adult novel. She wants to be a pathologist. Her dad's a coroner. The murder that she solves involves a psychic. She questions her belief in "just the facts"

I read Catcher in the Rye when I was in my late twenties...what a mistake. In my opinion, you can only read this when you are that age. By the end of the book I was so sick and tired of his whining. I kept thinking to myself, 'wait until you get to the real world, buddy.'

Tell me about it. I was 15 when I read it, and I thought the same thing. While I think Holden is an interesting character and a good analysis on the young and the cynical, I never really understood his appeal. He's seems quite a sad character to me.
