The group read for the summer (June, July and August) is The Name of the Wind, written by LT author Patrick Rothfuss and published in 2007. It is the first part of the Kingkiller Chronicle, of which so far two parts (the other being The Wise Man's Fear) have been published.

The Name of the Wind begins in the rural town of Newarre, introducing the innkeeper Kote and his assistant Bast, revealing that Kote is the renowned Kvothe: an unequaled sword fighter, magician, and musician, rumored to have killed a king and caused the present war. His assistant and student Bast is a prince of the Fae. Kvothe saves Chronicler, a traveling scribe, from spider-like creatures called Scrael, whereupon Chronicler asks to record Kvothe's story. Upon consenting, Kvothe tells Chronicler that this will take three days (corresponding to the planned trilogy of novels).

It's completely up to the individual reader when they want to read the book. The group read is set for the whole three months, but if you'd rather read it all in June, spread it out over just two months or save it for August - that's fine too! Do it however works best for you.

Thanks for setting the thread up! I'm planning to read this over the summer but not sure which month yet.

>3 souloftherose: Read it whenever it works best for you. I'll probably read it over several months as it's pretty hefty and I have a ton of other books I want to read as well. Or rather, I'll start reading during early June and see how long it takes me to finish.

I keep forgetting to come over here and comment but I finished The Name of the Wind and enjoyed it so much I went on to read The Wise Man's Fear too. So much detail to the worldbuilding and lots of intriguing clues to various mysteries - the third book isn't out yet but I think I will enjoy rereading the first two whenever it does get released.

Doh! I went on a reading slump and almost missed this. Not sure if I have time to read it before the end of August now.

The summer is over, but I finally read The name of the wind. It was a great read indeed, it took some time before I got into the story, but after that it was a real treat. Not sure yet if I want to read the next one immediately or wait a few weeks.
