In the past I have often bought books that I already own (I now check my LT catalogue before buying anything), but never a $2000 one!

and lo and behold I find in my closet a copy that I bought a year ago and completely forgot about
I have done this with a run of the mill paperback, but with an LE?

>1 the_bb: Maybe you should start collecting LE's - of Wind in the Willows? Two down. 998 to go. (or 1024 - presumably they did some lettered copies, too.)
You are probably already a heavyweight on the international Wind in the Willows-collecting scene, given the two copies you have on hand. :-)

I know just what you mean. The other day I opened my garage door to put away my sparkling new lamborghini. Imagine my surprise when I realised I'd already bought one the week before. Exact same colour, too!

If I did that I wouldn't have any books!

That happened to me a couple of occasions but not with a LE. I think I bought two different LEC twice. And recently Van Gogh from Taschen. So stupid. It happens when you buy too many books, with too little space and too little reading time.

I have bought dozens, maybe scores, of standard/core editions that I bought a year or two earlier: I'm doubled shelved, so I forget what I've bought -- I even have some triples! But I've never forgotten buying an LE (not that I have that many ...)

I always search my catalog before purchasing unless it is a paperback which I don't log. I even log books on order because once I ordered the same book twice (about a month apart) because the first copy had not yet arrived and been cataloged before I ordered the second copy. Doh! My kids would always win out when I would double order, but no more - we have procedures :-)

I know this is an old thread, but I stumbled upon it while trying to find a “definitive” thread about this publication, and somehow it seems appropriate.
I recently acquired a copy of the book, and would be happy to add the prospectus and letter from Toad, if anyone had an extra one they’d be willing to part with.
It’s an old book, so I’m sure it’s a long shot, but if someone can find an extra copy of the entire book, perhaps it’s not so odd an extra letter or prospectus could be hanging around in someone’s closet.
And lastly, it was unexpected to be unable to find a thread dedicated to the discussion of this lovely book. Usually I’m able to find a great discussion on each of the LEs. Maybe I just haven’t stumbled across the right search criteria yet.

Thank you for reviving it, I hadn’t read the original post which had me crying with laughter!

>16 GusLogan: yes, I agree. I had missed this the first time around. Had me laughing this morning.
I have ordered books without telling my wife. However, when I recently ordered a car from the UK, I had to break down and tell my wife. I can't quietly hide that in the garage and not have her notice. And if you think Folio's prices have increased for their books, try a car!
