So, here's an example:
All the Light We Cannot See
Just be sure to double check (underneath "touchstone" to the right) that the correct author comes up. If there are common words in the title, it might pull up a different book automatically. You can change that by clicking "others" and clicking the green plus to select the correct one.
You can click on the "Groups" tab at the top, then from the left menu, click "your groups". Then click on the group(s) you want to look at as a whole.
OR, you can click on the "Talk" tab. The left menu gives you different options for what you want to show up there. You can toggle it. If you leave and come back, it brings you back to the last option you had it on. Most often, I keep it on "my posts" and it only lists all the threads I've posted to. You can easily see which ones have new posts.
Since this is a post, not an entire page I want to save, I don't have this added to Notes (but maybe I should investigate is I can still add a link to just the post?).
What I have done to easily find this post is to "star" it. Under the post, you'll see "more". Click that and you have a few options. Hmmm, it's been a while since I've done this. Did I "Add to Favorites"? Yes, yes I did.
Once you've added it to "Favorites", you can find it later by clicking on "Talk" in the brown banner at the top of the page. Then, look at the menu on the left and you can click on "Starred". That brings up any posts you have marked as a "favorite".
You can also "star" an entire thread by clicking "Star this topic" at the top of the thread.
And for stopping in to help out us "refugee" shelfarians! (Ok, I've been here a while, but many are just starting out!)
Good luck getting everything up to speed. This is my favourite site after shelfari. :-)
Though it is big and there is lots going on and it is confusing for a while. And you do have to get used to the non-nested discussion threads - which I know is a big thing. But there are lots of great people over here. I find the community is much more similar to how it was at shelfari - smaller, closer-knit.
Okay ... I'm trying to figure out this Touchstones business ...
Do I have to type the brackets, because I'm not seeing a link to click ...
All the Light We Cannot See
Okay, I typed it with the brackets and the TOUCHSTONES area at the right brought up the book .... now will it post the link here in my message?
Hitting "Post Message" now and we'll see ...
Did I mention my preference already? I usually just have it on "my posts" so that I only see the threads that I have replied to in the past. Then, I make an effort to go check out any new threads in each of my groups every so often.
However, I'm considering going in via the Group page and trying that out for a while, so I don't have to make that "extra" effort to check and I would keep more up to date, as well. It's what I always did on shelfari, anyway (although over there, we did get that "unread messages" notification on the group page, so I knew with groups not to bother checking in on!).
>14 LibraryCin: Like MJ said, annual groups that I don't participate in generally get ignored, plus things I have negative interest in, like the "Hogwarts" one, and such. Initially I had Pro & Con ignored but then I decided to let it stay, some threads there can be interesting (though I wind up clicking ignore on a bunch of them). Over time you just weed out the things you know you don't want to see. :)
1) I don't use the catalogue page for editing, but I know that gives problems on at least some touchscreens.
2) The reviews page.
3) The edit book page.
Just tested 2 and 3 with my iPad, and they both worked.
I might copy/paste a few of the questions and answers from here over there - is everyone ok with that before I go ahead and do it?
I also have a thread for "My profile" guestions:
Yes, there is. Go to the Group's main page, and on the right-hand side you should find a box that includes a link to "Ignore this group". Click on that.
Folks have already posted publicly, I don't think anyone would object to you collecting responses into a different thread.
All The Light We Cannot See
It worked! Yippee! That's a cool feature.
So for instance, to link my profile, I'd type Monkey's profile and get Monkey's profile
Some groups can't be joined. Book Talk is an example of a group that can't be joined. But you can participate. You can also 'watch' it, which makes the topics show in the lists for your groups. https://www.librarything.com/groups/booktalk
There are other groups that you have to join if you want to participate in, but you can still see everything. And private groups that you have to be invited to join.
