Hello Everyone!
Glad to be back for another year. Since I am a huge Star Wars fan and we have new movies and books coming out over the next several years I thought that for 2016 I would go with a Star Wars theme. As I work out my categories I hope to post fun quotes, pictures, and facts. For this year I'm going with a step challenge, same as last year. I'll have a lot of the same categories as in 2015, I think I've figured out what my main categories are, and of course this year, Star Wars gets its own category.
2. Jedi Holocron: Torah Cycle
4. Republics and Empires: History
6. Galactic Credits: Freebies Complete
8. Jedi Temple: Mythgard Complete
10. Science Fiction Complete

Star Wars sure seems to be the prevailing theme these days. I can't get over how many tie-ins I see in commercials - even Cadillac! It will be fun to follow your theme through 2016.

I love it! I also have a Star Wars category in my 2016 challenge, it'll be fun to see if we have any overlap.

Welcome back and enjoy your challenge! :)

I recently listened to the audio of William Shakespeare's Star Wars. It was terrific!

I'm not a Star Wars fan at all, but I'll certainly be back here once in a while to see what the fuss is all about, and to see how you fill your categories. Have fun!

>21 majkia: majkia: I totally agree. I really enjoyed the William Shakespeare Star Wars series. I own and have read all 6 episodes. They were a lot of fun.

Anyone else excited for The Force Awakens tomorrow!! My brother and I will be attending our local theater in less than 24 hours in full Jedi costumes. It's going to be so much fun. I really hope the movie lives up to the trailers.

The reviews seem to say it the franchise is back on track. I'm glad because I, II, and III were terrible IMO.

Have a great time at the movie! :)

My brother and I enjoyed hanging out at the mall yesterday in costume. We were interviewed by the local paper and made the front page this morning. I enjoyed seeing so many Star Wars fans turn out for one event.
I won't spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it yet, but overall it was decent. I have mixed feelings about it because a lot of it seemed derivative of IV. And I felt like way too much was going on for one movie. Multiple capture/escape/dogfights and not much down time at all. I'm also a huge fan of the Expanded Universe books so the changes/similarities bothered me. All in all I loved Han and Leia, and newcomer Rey. I'm definitely going to see it again soon and get another look at it.

I'll try to post a couple of pictures of us in costume. I just have to go edit a few photos first.

Love the costumes! Hope you enjoyed the movie.
34kkunker
The movie was a fun action film with very little plot. I loved the Han and Leia scenes, they really redeemed the film for me. Most of the rest of it was a repeat of Episode IV: lost droid, lost kids find a mentor, blow up huge enemy base with x-wings. Rey shows the most promising of the new trio, and BB-8 was a cute droid. I'm probably going to see it again today or tomorrow when my sister gets home from college, maybe it will be more appealing the second time through.
35MissWatson
The cosumes look great! And it's good to know about Han and Leia. I've always had a soft spot for him.

Thanks for all the positive costume posts everyone. It was strange being a local celebrity for a weekend, but fun. I had a great time making the costumes completely by hand. I'm actually considering making a Rey costume or something for the upcoming Star Wars Rogue One, that would be a different type of challenge.
Now that I've met my 2015 ROOT goal I'm hoping to add more photos and quotes to the categories today.

>44 AHS-Wolfy:: Thanks. I'm looking forward to reading lots of Star Wars books this year.
In fact I just finished my first Star Wars book of the year, for the Holonet/pop culture category. The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary provided some great photographs of new characters. I'm thinking of making a Rey costume at some point, so her four pages were really useful. The dictionary also contained some details which were not disclosed in the movie, always fun to learn more. A light, quick read.
Note: my pre-ordered copy of the novelization Star Wars The Force Awakens shipped out yesterday, so that should arrive soon.

Finished my first Freebie of the year, Hermione Granger Saves the World a LT Early Reviewer from last year. I enjoyed the essays, but a lot of the material was repetitive, maybe the editor could have made a stronger effort to have the authors emphasize different scenarios. Overall a decent read, I feel like quite a Hermione myself at times.

Finished my first Youngling/YA book of the year, Star Wars Rebels: Visual Guide: Epic Battles. Provides a nice overview of the characters and battles fought in the new animated Star Wars series. Contains information for season one and half of season two.

Read 2 fantasy books in the past week, The Gifted by Matthew Dickerson and Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. Enjoyed both, Dickerson's book is the first in a new trilogy, and Sanderson's is the second in a new Mistborn series. Not sure how long I'll be waiting for the continuations, but I will definitely read them when they come along.

I've read a bunch of Star Wars books in the past week, mostly short YA/movie books.
Rey’s Survival Guide
This little book was a lot of fun. The premise is that this journal was written by Rey to help new arrivals survive on Jakku. She provides advice on scavenging, people, and the climate. Includes some nice "sketches" and details not found in the movie.
The Art of Star Wars The Force Awakens
Shows the process that the Art Department went through and the lengthy concept art and development phase. Some cool drawings and models of scenes and individuals who were in the film and some which were cut.
Star Wars The Force Awakens Incredible Cross Sections
This short book provides some really detailed images of the ships in The Force Awakens, and it shows the cross-sections to give you a good idea of the internal structure and complexity that these sorts of ships would have. Includes the Falcon, Rey's speeder, Kylo's command shuttle, and Poe's X-wing.
Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide
This book focuses on the people and episodes of Star Wars Rebels, season one. All the main characters get their own pages, both rebels and Imperials.
Star Wars Boba Fett The Fight to Survive
First book in the Scholastic YA series on Boba Fett. Personally I didn't really connect with young Boba, he seemed far too gullible and trusting, not what I expected from the son of Jango Fett. Not sure if I will continue the series or not.

The cross-sections book sounds neat!
51kkunker
>50 rabbitprincess:: I enjoyed the cross-section book a lot. I just requested a second one from my library which covers ships from I-VI. It's called Star Wars: Complete Cross-Sections, from 2007, and has 150 pages. The Force Awakens specific volume one had about 45 pages and covered a dozen ships. I'm looking forward to reading the older saga volume.

I thought it was finally time that I read the book. I am curious to see how this new adaptation compares to original. I enjoyed the book and have put a hold request on The Return of Tarzan at my library.

August has started off on a good note. I had pre-ordered Harry Potter and the Cursed Child from Amazon and it arrived Thursday. I read the first 50 pages at midnight when I got home from work and then finished the rest of the book on Friday. No spoilers, I promise.
I really enjoyed the play, more than I was expecting. The different style didn't bother me at all, I found the short scenes very conducive for the plot. I loved seeing Hermione as Minister for Magic and Harry as a father struggling to connect with and raise his son Albus, who is a Slytherin and doesn't have many friends at Hogwarts. Overall thought it was really well done. I have a friend who is in London and actually got the see the play when it debuted, now I can understand why she was so enthusiastic but secretive about it. I plan to re-read it at a slower pace once my sister reads it to really enjoy it for the content. The first read through was quite fast because I just had to know what happened.
