Time is running out! We have 2 months left to reach our goal. Close to a third of our participants have reached their personal goal and are helping with the group goal so let's everyone reach on to our own shelves and grab a ROOT!
I've set up these tickers (password ROOT) that everyone can show their progress toward a comprehensive goal for all of us. Wouldn't it be great if we could together reach our group goal in 2015? IN 2014 WE READ NEARLY 4000 BOOKS OFF OUR OWN SHELVES! That's awesome! But WE can do better!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would like to ask for your assistance keeping the totals in 2015.
Please post your personal tickers in the ticker thread or post your monthly progress here at the end of the month so that I can gather the numbers in one thread as much as possible. THOSE PEOPLE WITH A © NEXT TO THEIR NAMES actually have a ticker but it hasn't been copied to the ticker thread. Those with a & next to their name, I can't find either a ticker on the ticker thread or an individual thread. I definitely need help in those areas.
So, now, Ladies and Gentlemen, BOOK LOVERS, BIBLIOPHILES, BOOK HOARDERS - get out there and read those BOOKS!
Don't worry about the cooler temperatures and leaden skies! Cuddle up with a book! We still need to read those ROOTs!
The goal for November is 3,597!
2benitastrnad
I raised my ROOT goal from last year, and early this summer I really buzzed through the books off my shelves. I haven't done as well in the last three months. This is partly due to the fact that I finished reading some series that I had started and the newest books in the series technically weren't books-off-my-shelves. However, I am now done with the series so I guess that is what counts - until the author publishes another in the series.
3rainpebble
I just finished my first ROOT for November. WOOT WOOT!~! I sure do love this challenge.
Thank you Cheli for all of your efforts on our behalf.
First ROOT for November to report! That's # 37 for the Year. (I did update my own tickers yesterday) now I have one question for Chèli. Do I need to update the group tickers or did you adjust them to your list total?
5leslie.98
I finished my first ROOT for November today as well. I'm off to update the tickers & my thread...
6lindapanzo
I finished my first ROOT for the month on the first day of the month.
We can do this!! We were so close to being on target all year but we're now falling behind. Hope we can keep it up.
Thank you for all your efforts, Chèli. I hope you had a great time with your grandchildren.
I finished my first ROOT for November yesterday afternoon Lovers All Untrue by Norah Lofts. Such a great book, even if it was a reread from about twenty years ago!
I have a idea to get to our total goal this year. Follow the link and tell me what you think.
And Thanks again, Chèli, for all your hard work! & Congrats to all who've made their goals early!
12cyderry
>9 connie53: it's doable but do we want to target people? I wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
There are several other options we could consider:
Option 1 - Connie's idea - "wake up calls in threads that were started but died a little" But if the threads aren't being used, then what makes us think that they would see the wake up call?
Option 2 - send a private message to those that need a wake up call asking if they have made any further progress, if they have revised their goal, or if they have abandoned the challenge.
Option 3 - review all personal threads that have been inactive for more than 6 (?) months and PM them asking if they have made any further progress, if they have revised their goal, or if they have abandoned the challenge.
I wouldn't want to choose a percentage that a person would have had to have passed just to keep themselves in. Sometimes Life gets in the way and they may still want to continue to work toward their goal.
I'm sure there are other options as well.
I think all options could work.
We can try one option and see if people react.
No, I wouldn't want that either. If they have read just one ROOT and we have their attention again, that's okay by me.
Congrats to everyone who has met their goal. I just finished my first ROOT for November, so I only need 5 more to hit my goal. All tickers updated.
>12 cyderry: I really like Option 3 actually... owners of old, unused threads are contacted and if we don't hear word from them, we could maybe omit their numbers from the group totals (but still keep their figures at the bottom in a "if you want back in, we've still got you" category?).... But whatever you all decide, I'm of course fine with :)
>14 Robertgreaves: WOOT Congrats!!
>14 Robertgreaves: WOOT Congrats!!
Well, I contacted 11 people that signed up that hadn't made any progress in the last 6 months asking if everything was okay and whether they had abandoned the challenge asking for them to message me by November 10th. I found two members that had tickers that weren't up-to-date (42 more ROOTS) but their threads gave me new counts, and one member that has been removed from LT. After November 10th I'll make adjustments accordingly. 51/371 We would lose 51 read but gain 371 off the goal which would make us only 400+ from the goal. Well within reach.
Last night I read 2 more manga volumes which means I'm 4 away from my goal of 50. I'm really hoping for a really killer last two months of reading since I barely read anything over the summer. Plus for once I could actually contribute my excess to the group instead of taking away from the group total.
I definitely think we're going to reach our target this year!
Hey everyone,
I may be missing in action for the rest of the month.
My 91 year old mom had a small stroke so I'm going back and forth to the hospital.
I have time to read but not a lot of concentration and little time on line but I'll pop in when I can.
I know you all will understand.
I've dropped out of LT the last month for soo many private things going on. I still haven't manged to read any TBR but we sorted out some books and so I discarded a few, I will not be going to read any time soon. So that means I brought 9 ROOTs to the challenge.
Which brings me to my newest book resolution for the next month. I have read 40 ROOTS so far this year. My goal for the year is 50. I've pulled from the stacks (and piles and obscure corners) about twenty books that are short or quick read books to attempt to sprint to the ROOT finish line.
Today I will try and sprint through A Guide to Navajo Sandpaintings - by Mark Bahti. This is a shorty with only a bit over sixty pages and lots of wonderful photographs. It's wonderfully interesting so far.
I've met my goal, but not my ABC-challenge. I need 4 more to do that. And I've selected them too. Really nice to have a small pile for the next month.
89craso
I've meet my goal of 12 books for the year. My last book was a short novel called Doctor Who: Keeping up with the Joneses by Nick Harkaway. Now, on with reading. I want to read an extra ROOT to help us toward our overall goal.
90lilisin
I completed my goal towards the beginning of the month and am now at 10 manga for the month, having contributed an extra 4 to the group total.
My goal next month is to read two novels in Japanese (instead of just reading manga) to push me into the right direction for the new year where hopefully I transition to reading more serious works in Japanese. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to complete two but if I could at least get one done, I'll be happy.
101moonshineandrosefire
Hello everyone! So, all of us ROOTers seem to be doing absolutely wonderfully. :) I've read the exact same number of ROOTs this month as I did last November. I may not reach my goal for this year, but that's alright - I've made a pretty good run at it! And I'm certainly going to keep reading until the end of the year.
Anyway, in keeping with the group theme, here are my totals for November:
Ancient Oaks Pruned: stands for older books read from my TBR pile: 4
Young Saplings Pruned: stands for newer books read from my TBR pile: 5
Trees Replanted: stands for rereads from my TBR pile: 1
New Seeds Planted: stands for additions to my TBR pile: 9
Trees Transplanted: stands for books that were donated: 11
I've updated all my personal tickers, but never touched the group one: https://www.librarything.com/topic/185140
I am a bit late to the party for November. I clocked in 4 ROOTs for November. There was one more but I got so caught up in entering my books on LT that I didn't get around to entering all my ROOTs this month.
