So I've finished my 2015 challenge, reading 10 books in 15 categories last month. I'd like to hang out here and list my reads for the rest of the year.

Notice I said list, because I don't review, but I will try to share my thoughts as I go along.

Good Morning Everyone:

I have been absent from my thread more than usual. October was a very good reading month for me, but it was also filled with stressful health issues. I was all set to go on vacation the week of October 12th and had planned to spend the day packing, when I passed out not once but twice early that morning.

I spent four days in the hospital and then used my vacation time that I had already put in for to recover at home. All scary things have been ruled out, but I will need monitoring probably for the foreseeable future. It seems as though I have come congenital abnormalies that when combined with a drop in heart rate and blood pressure caused the problem. Plus I was dehydrated. You never realize that dehydration can make other things worse. Let's just say I drink plenty of water now, and am trying to eat better.

Its weird in a way, if I hadn't hit my head, then I wouldn't have to had it scanned and I would have never known about the abnormalities.

Not to get all zen, but the experience has given me a new outlook on life, the things that are important, and the things that aren't. I try to be a glass half full kind of girl and things could always be worse.

On a lighter note, it's amazing that as my head was spinning I had the presence of mind to grab my Nook in addition to my phone. After I was looked at the ER and waiting to be admitted, I finished an entire book while waiting for a room. Those of you who have been in a hospital know that you can't really sleep with an iv stabbing you in the arm and getting your vitals checked every hour, so I was able to read, read, read.

As for my reads, so far this month, I thoroughly enjoyed Career of Evil, what an ending! I really enjoyed books 2 and 3 of Jane Smiley's trilogy, but there were way too many characters to keep track of and I had to keep referring to the family tree.

I also found In A Dark Dark Wood to be just ok, I think I expectd more with all of the hype.

I'm now reading Bitter River, which I am finding pretty good, but maybe not as good as the first book. We'll see.

Thanks for checking in with an update. Sorry to read about the health issues and the foregone vacation. Glad to see that all scary things have been ruled out.

Lisa, I am sorry to hear you've not been well but so glad to hear that the scary things have been ruled out. I remember last year when I was in the hospital and had no books with me and almost went crazy so I know how smart it was of you to grab your nook. Take care of yourself and enjoy your reading.

I'm glad you're okay and it wasn't something scary! But that's still scary and not fun using your vacation time to lie in a hospital bed.

When my daughter broke her leg and we had to rush her to the ER, I did grab my kindle on the way out the door. And I was very grateful as I ended up spending a week in the hospital with her. My husband came by on their way to see his mother and brought me a stack of books, but they were all books I'd already finished, so I was grateful for the kindle, and aware at my own selfishness in taking the nanosecond to grab it. In your case, it simply indicated that your brain was working just fine.

How scary! So happy to hear you're OK and have found out what was wrong. Take care of you!!

Seconding RidgewayGirl's comment - your brain was working just fine since it knew how to prioritize correctly. :)

Sorry to hear of your health problems and glad that they did not affect your ability to read - or remember your Nook! Hope all will be well. Happy Thanksgiving!

End of the year wrap up:

As I look back on my reading this year, there were several that were excellent. Even though I can't always tell by the ratings I gave them, here are my favorite reads for the year:

Between The World And Me
A Manual for Cleaning Women
The Shore
A Brief History of Seven Killings
Ghettoside
Hell's Bottom Colorado
Our Souls At Night
