I got a question about the use of First/Last Words in the case of a book with collected works.
http://www.librarything.com/work/200380/book/117222934
I added the first and last words for every single work in the book (they all had appeared in different places as well). I thought that being a good idea of adding additional information into CK. But someone apparently deleted all but the first (First words) and last (Last Words).

How should cases like these be handled? Only add the different work titles int the Disambiguation Notice field? Or add each work with the beginnging and ending words? I'd prefer the second since add much more information for the book.

You can enter the various parts in work to work relationships. The disambiguation notice is not the place for this. That is the place for information that helps combiners.

I think only the first and last words of the full work should be included.

I wouldn't go out of my way to remove such info, but I agree that imho such common knowledge should refer to the work as a whole.

>2 MarthaJeanne: I think that would be a good way - but that would mean the succession of the works in a book must always be the same otherwise you would end up with different First and Last Words (that would make an entry in the Disambiguation Notice necessary, I guess).

And is it useful to make so many new entries for works which are not already in LT? Like http://www.librarything.com/work/book/121171820 Should I now add every single title as a work relationship? And, how do I do that? I add a work without any work details and make a link to the collection? Like http://www.librarything.com/work/8079279 (and the other Asimov stories)?

It is not only not useful, it is specifically prohibited to create a new entry solely to create a work-to-work relationship. See http://www.librarything.com/topic/109828#2514997

I would say that it is both useful and prohibited myself, but "prohibited" trumps the usefulness question.

If someone had gone through the trouble of putting all that work in, I wouldn't erase it. That's plain rude.

Though if each unique story had its beginning and ending words included, shouldn't that be noted with the story title in parenthesis? I thought I saw that on another story collection...
