For no discernible (by me) reason, I have hopped from Plutarch to Pliny. Now tumbling through the extended table of contents that is volume 1 of the Natural History.

I've heard his Letters are wonderful -- am looking forward to those.

I recently read Pliny's the younger letters in the folio society edition, and liked them very much, especially letters that describes the death of his uncle Pliny Elder.

>8 Eramirez156: ... am I recalling correctly that there's a description of the Elder Pliny setting off in a boat to observe the eruption of Vesuvius (and not coming back)?
