I took a look at the shared books in our group, and I think the reason not much is discussed is that we have very few shared books. Many users either have small libraries, or have not felt encouraged to put thier libraries into LT.

I've been thinking about this for a while. You raise an interesting point, and I wish there *were* more postings.

Regarding the shared books issue: I don't have time to enter my whole library onto this site--I have an 11-month-old daughter and barely have time to check email. I know that a bar-code reader makes it easier, but the thought of going through my house, shelf by shelf, touching all the books, unloading them, loading them...and there are so many other things to be done.

So for a while I thought that I'd just enter books as I read them. But I'm on another book-talk site (goodreads.com), which is where I log the books I've read. It's a bit more user friendly; I can submit reviews that get sent to all my friends. It allows me to keep a few lists: books I've read, books to read, and currently reading, and allows me to create self-described lists. I could probably do a better job of talking about what I'm reading, rather than saving it for goodreads.

So what else? Does anybody else have ideas about why discussion is faltering? What do people want from this list?
