This thread is for posting information about what you hope/intend/plan to read during the August/September 2014 (Labor Day Weekend) ReadaThing . . .

No need for a "plan" but if you have some idea, then give us a preview!

I will be trying to finish Silent Spring and will probably read/re-read some of B.K.S. Iyengar's books, especially Light on Life and Core of the Yoga Sutras. (He just passed away at the age of 95. I've been practicing Iyengar Yoga for about 10 years.)

Edited to fix touchstones

elokuu 21, 2014, 1:10pm

I have no idea :)
Whatever library book(s) I have on hand will be first, and after that I will pick from my TBR pile.

elokuu 21, 2014, 1:41pm

Hmm, I haven't decided yet. I'll probably try to finish Octavia Butler's Survivor and one of the other books I have half-finished- Melissa Scott's The Kindly Ones, Louise Cooper's The Outcast, and Tanith Lee's The Silver Metal Lover at this point. I have been wanting to re-read Madeleine L'Engle's A Wind in the Door too though- A Wrinkle in Time held up for me very well, and I remember liking this one too.

elokuu 22, 2014, 3:10am

I'm hoping to use the time to finish Collapse by Jared Diamond, which I'll be alternating with revisiting done childhood favourites I haven't seen in 20 years (most likely one or both of Alanna and The Silver Brumby depending on how much time I get in).

Muokkaaja: elokuu 22, 2014, 3:25am

I haven't a clue yet. I'm in the middle of 2 books now (The Plot Against America and De leeuw van Vlaanderen), but I hope to finish them both before then. Maybe I will do The Magic of Reality or Stalin's Secret Pogrom next. They're are on my TBR Challenge, which is my prime focus of the moment.

elokuu 22, 2014, 4:44am

If I haven't finished it by then (which I doubt I will, cuz I've been reading my ebooks more than my library books lately), I'm hoping to work on and maybe finish This Book Is Full Of Spiders: Seriously, Dude, Don't Touch It by David Wong. I'm probably also going to be working on As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, because I joined a book club that's using that as their first book, and it tentatively has to be read by September 13th. I'll probably throw in some random romance novel, too, because I'm even more addicted to those lately than usual, for some reason. And if I can get at least one or two more library books finished and returned by then, I'd love to get back to A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. It'd be nice to finally be able to discuss it with my friends.

And even though I just spent all that time writing out all those books I'd like to read, I'm probably going to end up reading something outta left field that I never would have predicted. I tend to do that. "I have ten books I'm in the middle of? Then I oughta start a new book, picked at (almost) random!"

LOL! I do the same thing!! I'll be reading a bunch of books, but see mention of one that looks interesting . . . so I request it from the library . . . and of course it comes in at the worst possible time but I drop everything else and read it! Often my life seems dictated by which book I need to read because it is due back at the library. (Paired with a food/cooking/recipe obsession which has me living my life from meal to meal.) So after "What will I eat/cook next?" and "What will I read next?" there's not much free time left to plan :)

Looking forward to the ReadaThing so I can learn more about some of the books listed above!

elokuu 22, 2014, 1:28pm

Now, don't all laugh at once - I've just realised we're not reading until next weekend (it's a holiday weekend this weekend in the UK; I got my holiday weekends mixed up - too keen to get started!) err, I might have to rethink what I'll be reading as I got a head start today and finished Collapse already ;)

elokuu 22, 2014, 3:38pm

>5 imyril: And here I was thinking it was two weeks away! I had plans to take off next Friday and only just now realized that that would give me a four day weekend with the holiday- yay more reading time!

Is Alanna a new read or a re-read for you?

elokuu 22, 2014, 3:50pm

A reread - but my first revisit in about 20 years, so I'm a little nervous about how I find her. Nostalgia trip!

elokuu 23, 2014, 12:27am

>8 LucindaLibri: The worst part about it for me is that I love nothing better than starting a new book, but I tend to have trouble finishing them... Which means I'm in the middle of a few that I've been "reading" for months upon months. >_A Game Of Thrones back in December........

elokuu 23, 2014, 12:55am

>9 imyril:
I was afraid chosing the US holiday weekend would cause confusion elsewhere . . . sorry about that . . . but enjoy your holiday!

>10 sandstone78:
Yes, Labor Day is early this year (September 1st is the earliest it can be :) . . . and August seems to be going by far to quickly!

Muokkaaja: elokuu 23, 2014, 1:27am

I think that I will actually be able to participate (again) in a Read-A-Thing!! I won't have access to the internet when I'll be reading, but I'll be able to read..... shh- I'll be at work!! Believe it or not, I've got a job that if/when it gets quiet, I can read!!!! and on weekends and holidays, it gets quiet!! I've even finished a light mystery in one shift!!

So, I'll post after each shift when I've read.... **bounce** **bounce** **bounce**

I'm so happy to be back in a RaT!!!! **big silly grin**

(off to sign up in the 'no timeline' section)

Oh, yes, what will I be reading? whatever is on the ereader...

elokuu 23, 2014, 3:07am

>13 LucindaLibri: no apology required - I get 2 weekends of lots of reading, hurray! :)

elokuu 26, 2014, 5:07pm

I'm going to finish "The Man Who Loved Dogs" by Leonardo Padura, trans. Anna Kushner. It's a great book (historical fiction? creative non-fiction?) about Leonid Trotsky and the man who killed him but it's 600 pages long and moves from POV to POV. I want to spend more time on it and finish it.

elokuu 26, 2014, 6:27pm

I'm thinking that I'll be listening to The Gift of Rain by Tan Twan Eng in all likelihood and probably still reading The Emperor of Nihon-Ja by John Flanagan and Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks. If I've managed to finish either of those I'll start on Brilliance of the Moon by Lian Hearn.

Muokkaaja: elokuu 27, 2014, 6:23am

I'd love to finish The Clockwork Fairy Kingdom this weekend, so that I can put the review up (I won it through Early Reviewers on here). In a perfect world that leaves me alone all four days to read, I'd also be finishing Places To See Books 1-3 that I won from Early Reviewers as well (last month was very fruitful in wins for me). And since I'm in this perfect bibliophile-lovin' world, I'll finish Fibromyalgia For Dummies as well, so that I can finally take it back to the library. Gotta love them perfect worlds. Knowing my luck, I'll get ten pages read the entire weekend. *sighs* Too many interesting books, too little time. If I could just figure out how to not need sleep...

elokuu 27, 2014, 4:12pm

>18 VampAmber:
Thanks for the reminder of how many ER books I still haven't reviewed :( . . . will try to crack open one of those this weekend too.

elokuu 27, 2014, 11:39pm

>21 VampAmber:
more like thanks with a *sigh* afterwards . . . not good or bad . . . too many books, too little time :)

elokuu 27, 2014, 11:40pm

>20 staffordcastle:
Those both sound fascinating! though I tend to prefer old fashioned labyrinths walked in the grass :)

elokuu 28, 2014, 3:55am

>22 LucindaLibri: Definitely know how that goes. I recently added the bulk of my ebook collection to GoodReads, and now I have over 1,500 on my to-read list..........

elokuu 28, 2014, 7:13am

I'm going to have an indulgent weekend of rereading. My mum found and evicted some boxes of books from my childhood/teens that had been languishing in her basement for 20 years; I'm going to revisit those old friends. The Cats of Seroster has been on my mind, and various people have mentioned Krynn recently, so I suspect both of these may feature.

elokuu 28, 2014, 8:40am

Big weekends deserve big books so for me it will be A Clash of Kings.

elokuu 28, 2014, 6:59pm

Lucky me, it was my birthday 10 days ago and I got lots of new books. Planning to start with Jo Nesbo's Cockroaches, and then (in no particular order), read Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes, Iain Banks' The Crow Road, and Ann Patchett's The Patron Saint of Liars. I may substitute Stephen's King's The Green Mile for one of those books.

elokuu 28, 2014, 9:19pm

At 10 pm central, if not sooner, I plan to start the new Janet Evanovich mystery Top Secret Twenty-One.

I'm off of work for the next four days for the Labor Day holiday and plan to get a lot of reading it. I've signed up for the 10 pm slot for tonight and the next three nights.

Muokkaaja: elokuu 29, 2014, 8:38pm

I am going to be reading, and trying to finish, Geoffrey Saign's book WhipEye. I am going to review it for him. I think it's pretty good so far!

elokuu 29, 2014, 12:15am

I have the opposite problem. I love finishing a book. I get excited to read through to the end. However, it seems I need a break between books. After I finish one I may allow some time to elapse before picking up another (or continuing in one I've put down, as, like you, I've got more than one book going at once).

elokuu 30, 2014, 9:27pm

I am attempting a couple of Big Fat Books plus some guilty pleasures. I have really been looking forward to it. Some 11 plus hours of reading time in I have knocked back: Henry and Cato, Blackbird House and Molly Fox's Birthday plus I am well into Outlander. It's been really good thus far in.
It's so interesting to see what everyone is reading and how they are doing.

elokuu 31, 2014, 2:57am

If you go to the LOGBOOK thread, you'll see what everyone is actually reading AND you get to see where a lot of reading is getting done... actual pictures!! YAY!!

The Logbook thread is here:
