Saw this on the what's new section of the Easton Press. An email will probably go out shortly about what looks like a DLE. I must say that I'm loving the illustrations.

Indeed I posted a pic of The Hound for comparison to me it looks beautiful, although the Tarzan from what I remember looks a bit different.

Wow, I was momentarily excited about this as I really like the EP treatment for HOTB but I have to say I really don't like the illustrations one bit! Must pass....wallet breathing again.

hhmmm I might be in the minority on the illustrations. I think it complements the book and story well in a bizarre way.

It's a bit pricey for me right now as I'm eyeing on some other books but it will be on a to get list down the road. Both books do look stunning together.
>5 EclecticIndulgence: Mine has already dispatched ;) also added The Golem for good measure.

As a point of clarification, it is actually the people pictures that I dislike. The three landscape and/or castle pictures are quite lovely.

Maybe. I'm not quite as excited about this as I should be. Perhaps one reason is the limitation number. One of the nice things about having a limited edition is, well, that it's limited. 1200 seems rather high. Does anyone else feel this way? I think 500 would have been a nice limitation number, even though this may have driven the cost up a bit.

>6 JuliusC:: Is that the unfortunate Lucy Westenraa in the second picture?
10JuliusC
>9 iluvbeckett: Most likely, but I don't own the book so your speculations are as good as mine.

I have the Dracula... it is a gorgeous production and I have to say I am loving this line of books... Baskervilles, Dracula, and now Poe.... AWESOME!!!
13JuliusC
I do like the style of this particular series, however they are on my low priority list. I've just finished reading Dracula (Folio edition), last time I read it was in highschool? I think it's very unlikely I will read it again anytime soon. Although I haven't read the hound since elementary. I wonder what's next....Frankenstein perhaps?

So I just received POE last week and now Dracula today. Both awesome DLE's IMO. Really loving this series of signed DLE's although EP said it's not really a series one cannot deny the similarities in design. This is a prime example of an amazing job of what EP can produce when they set their own type. Font are crystal clear with just the right amount of spacing. There are absolutely no fading in any of the pages. Not cowhide but the leather feels softer than the usual and has a nice texture. The paper used in POE is very thick with a nice texture whereas Dracula is thinner and smooth but both definitely better than the usual. What I like about Dracula are the nice hub spine which is more prominent and it's got printed marble end pages which is a nice touch. I'm all for it if they continue on with these types of DLE's, IMO they've nailed it spot on definitely one of their best. Maybe they'll come out with Jekyll & Hyde or Frankenstein next? Now I must get The Hound and War of the Worlds (which I thought was the odd one of the bunch).

POE has a illustration of a crow in every beginning of a story/poem and a skull at the end. Dracula has a capitals introducing each journals.

Dracula is one I have a few copies of mainly because I want the different illustrations and well...it's a classic. My favourite one is Centipede Press edition illustrated by Greg Hildebrandt coming close to second is EP. Third would be Folios and last would be B&N, well this one is not illustrated.

Julius, it looks like you are prepared for the Dracula reading club next year. :)
I can't agree with you more. You defiantly have to pick up Hound before they sell out. The paper is exquisite, and I like the use of the grey ink and eveb the offset print which has been so controversial. I haven't pick up War of the Worlds yet. I also thought it an odd addition to the group (or non-group), but may have to add it to the list.

Continuing with these line of books/series comes Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde limited to 1200 copies. 5 x $69 / $345.

Illustrations IMO looks great but the price has gone up in this series. Not sure if I'll pick this up maybe I will in the far far future just to match the others but I have the Centipede Press edition and thought about getting the Hand & Eye Letterpress which looks like a lovely edition.

This is starting it's second half run. Ordered. I did pay for expedited just in case it is a fluke and only a couple of them are available.

>23 Wootle: did you get an email confirmation of your order. I just placed mine (twice) and both times it hung up and said "processing order"

I paid $500 earlier this year on eBay. Congratulations on being patient!

>25 thisGuy33: I did receive an email confirmation. When you are in the processing order page, there is a couple of buttons down there that says okay or no thank you, something like that, just click no and the site should take you back to your order. They are a little hard to find. Just be sure it shows up on your track your orders page in a couple of hours.
28Wootle
>26 jroger1: I wasn't being patient, just short on funds. I would look at all the ebay listings every once in a while and just could never do the $500.
It would be really cool to see The War of the Worlds resurrected. I have no hope for A Christmas Carol.

>26 jroger1: ... Wootle might have gotten the only one. I just placed two orders and both hung up with the message ...
"While we wait for your order to finish processing, we thought you might be interested in seeing THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES, an item that other customers like you have purchased."
I decided to try one more time using a different browser (firefox instead of chrome) ... same result.
I want to try safari ... but have a feeling it won't work.
I recall this happening one time in the past and switching browser worked.
Watch tomorrow I wake up with 4 $71 charges on my credit card.
LOL
Hopefully this is just a glitch and not a telling sign that there were only a few copies available.
Either way ... congrats to Wootle for gettin his!

:)

Be sure to check the track your orders page in a couple of hours. You'll probably have three orders there.
34thisGuy33
>33 Wootle: ... yeah ... probably be the case. And I grabbed "THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS" ... none of them have shown up on tracking yet ... but I'm sure they will. Seems like EP is not always a straight forward process.
lol
Hopefully we won't have a bunch of return/exchanges with these due to qc issues.
fingers crossed.

>33 Wootle: hahaha ... we'll my 3 orders for Dracula have yet to show up on the "order tracking" page ... but I did finally just now get two email confirmations for my first two orders from an hour ago. Strange how they delayed so long.
Guess I'll be calling first thing in the morning to cancel (or maybe I'll keep them just incase of qc issues).
I am emotionally scathed from past EP qc issues.

>35 thisGuy33: I think this is the second half run so there "should" be plenty of time to trade out any defective copies. There are too many other DLEs I need to purchase to buy more than one of any title. But if cash isn't a problem, perhaps two copies and pick the best one and return the other. "Just in case".

>35 thisGuy33:
Fortunately, defects have been rare in these illustrator signed editions, although a few problems have been noted in this forum.

>35 thisGuy33: Don't we all wish "cash isn't a problem" ... lol ... and here I was so excited for the first time in a full year to almost be out of the payment plan stronghold of EP ... and now they release all these new DLEs. I'm doomed.
:)
>37 jroger1: ... I think I'm either unlucky with EP as of late or just have gotten pickier ... the last half dozen of my EP DLE orders have had to be replaced between 1 and 3 times each.

As a 45 year collector (starting with Franklin) I think this illustrator signed DLE collection from EP are outstanding. I do not have any of these, but the pride and joy of my library are my 20 or so DLEs.
40j3tang
Is there hope of this ever returning?
None of the DLE ever come back do they?
I just can’t bring myself to spend ~$1500 second hand for this ……

>40 j3tang: There's always a chance, but I really do think this one is gone for good. It really is a lovely production, though.
Also, I don't necessarily suggest you pay even this, but there's a sealed copy on eBay right now being offered by a professional seller for $995.
However, your best bet is probably to join the Easton Press Buy/Sell groups on Facebook (there are a couple). You have a better chance of scoring a copy there for a reasonable price with some patience. There are even a few dealers who will search out a copy for you if you tell them you're interested in one and give them a reasonable spending limit.

I don't keep track of when DLE's get their second printings - maybe someone else can recall. If it has, then it probably won't come back.
However, there's always an excellent chance that EP will create a different DLE of the same title if the title is a popular classic. Dracula is, so I would bet that some new variant DLE will eventually come along. You have to get used to thinking in terms of waiting in multiple years, though.

Thanks both for info, yeah I am on the EP Facebook group and noticed that just one year ago July 2021, there was a Dracula DLE that sold for a very reasonable price that I could afford. If I recall correctly, it was in the neighborhood of about $400USD.
Probably not going to be able to get it at that price a year later though. Haha

Thanks, but the version by Amaranthine doesn't really do it for me. I did try to get the Power of Darkness by Centipede Press and I'd check back almost every day, but turns out it came and went on a day I had to travel for work and missed out on it :/
Part of the apprehension buying second hand is not knowing the seller, beit facebook or forums.
ebay is gonna be the safest but man, are they expensive.
