Books... Cats... you know who you are...

Whilst exploring the libraries of my various fellow members of the Australian Library Thingers Group I have found a disturbing correlation between cat owners and LibraryThingers... More to the point... why do so many of you have so many pictures of cats??? (Forgive me, I live in a feline free zone). Is there a secret society of which us 'non cat' people are not part? Please explain...

If you have ever owned a cat you would know why we worship them!!!

I prefer dogs... you can have a conversation with a dog... a cat either ignores you completely or gives you the bored look of someone who is merely tolerating you...

I think you're talking to the wrong cats - mine will converse with me for hours - of course they sometimes get sarcastic, but so do I.

#6 - agreed! My Tilly in particular can get very intense sometimes with her conversations & when I don't immediately get what she's trying to tell me, it often turns in to what I'm pretty sure is her swearing at me, lol :)

I think its often true that cats aren't interested in conversing or interacting with strangers, so those who haven't owned/been owned by an affectionate or talkative cat often don't know what cats can really be like...

My 2 cats are extremely interactive with me, but they hide from strangers...

I am not a cat person, but my housemate has one. I can see the appeal. They're amusing at times and cute, so long as you forget that they also decimate native wildlife. Cute, furry little serial killers.

Yes, CATS are Killers. But Dogs are more likely to be "Serial Killers" eg. say sheep.

In Melbourne, many suburbs have Curfews. Which I try to hold to. Cats can be tricky wrt. to
that though. When I first got MAX we had many a discussion on this same topic! After almost 5
years I still have to sometimes 'capture' him before dusk. Although he does sometimes fool me.

Lets see, in those 5- years he has bought in 2 Ring Tail Possums (baby - dead, probably not killed by him) and about 1 Rat/week eaten by him. I live in an ex orchid.

You're one of the conscientious owners then. I hear the neighbours' cats fighting, racing and chasing possums on my corry roof every night.
I stand by cats being killers, but that stands to reason. We like them because they remind us of ourselves ;)

One of the reasons for the great plague was that cats were demonised in the 17th century and there was nothing to control the rats.

Rats kill native animals and particularly they kill baby birds and raid nests for the eggs.

My outdoor cats used to bring in several rats per week and the superlative ratter next door used to line the dead rats up on the back doorstep for his owners to admire when they arrived home from work.

I now live in a penthouse apartment with two Orientals and they talk all the time with an extraordinarily large vocal range.
