Bring back the Franklin Library!

I wish a kickstarter campaign could be generated to get the Franklin Mint to start publishing again. Easton Press and Folio Society are great, but I think the Franklin Library may have been the best of all the collector's edition libraries. I have contacted Franklin before -- anyone else out there think there is a remote chance of this ever happening?

Quite remote. My assumption is that the book publishing arm of Franklin Mint was discontinued for profitability reasons and probably because Easton Press helped drive them out of business by gobbling up market share. But now that EP has become nothing more than a coffee table book republisher or leather-bound editions of other publisher's work (or titles that are out-of-copyright which can be cheaply photocopied), there certainly seems to be a need for competition. But again, I doubt it will happen.

The problem with the FL was that once they had published one edition from the 100 books series it was not possible for someone later in the series to purchase the said earlier book thus having the prospect of an incomplete set. There were both pros and cons with FL but I don't believe a revival would be profitable in the current market today. I mean the earlier edition from for example the 100 series were wonderful and luxurious editions that are still sought after today with real leather and to publish a book in the same condition today would be quite expensive.

Another vote here for the immediate urgency resuscitation of the Franklin Mint. They were far ahead of the competition ( Folio excepted). I think they would outperform EP. There is definitely a market for genuine premium luxury books and serious bibliophiles would be happy to pay extra if they had confidence in the product.

>1 ljgranberry: if you do not yet have the classics you can pick up scores of Franklin full leather books in the $15-30 range. They hold up well after 30 years, with the exception of their colorful moire end fabric which tends to fade (if not orange like EP).
