Possible spoilers to follow?

Loosely based on The Snow Queen, I really like this movie.  I know that some people are/were angry about it, but if Disney did not admit to the source material, there'd be hell to pay.  This movie is unique in so many ways, and it's unfortunate that these features are so unique in "modern" media.  Alas, for all the misguided notions that Hollywood is progressive, it is, at best, 50 years behind modern thinking.  Thank you, John Lasseter, for being a real progressive force!

How many songs have the word "fractal" in it?  A friend and I instantly geeked out when Elsa said "fractals".

And I'm thrilled that SHE IS QUEEN!  I realize that "disney princess" is a franchise, but I'm glad that, again, Lasseter doesn't hesitate to break tropes.

ETA:  Snow Queen, not Ice.  Alas, I cannot fix the subject line.  Please forgive me!  Thanks for the heads-up, foggi!

This one was a big hit with my, my sister, and my 4 yr old niece. After all, how many "princess movies" make the love story about two sisters who have grown apart instead of "princess meets prince and lives happily ever after"? And we too geeked about fractals. My niece listens to the song on constant repeat and knows all the words, even fractals. Following Brave, which was about a mother and daughter, Frozen has given us some hope that interesting stories about family and friendship and not just princesses in love are going to be the big new trend!

Because, shocker, there's more to a woman's life than who she marries.  I am a happily married woman, and while this marriage thing works well for us, my husband would have no interest in me if I had no other interest other than being married.

ETA: leahbird, I would +1 your comment if I could!

I really like Frozen, but it's so loosely based on The Snow Queen that I'd hardly count it as a retelling. Not that I mind; I'd rather see Disney create new stories than mangle old ones (I love most Disney films, but they do run roughshod over their source material). It's also worth noting that The Snow Queen is itself a relatively new tale since it's one of Hans Christian Andersen's literary fairy tales.

I'm with you there.  I see no problem with Disney being inspired by Andersen's story, and then doing their own thing.  That's how a lot of stories work, anyway.  If they actually called this The Snow Queen, then we'd have issues.
