I'm referring to the J.S. Sanders series Southern Classics from the early '90s. I've read the help pages and the wikipedia entry but I'm still not sure what constitutes a series. I have a feeling this one is not a series.

I checked four and found them all to be reprints of earlier publications. So it is a publishers series.

It's a publisher series, and it's already on LT as such:
http://www.librarything.com/publisherseries/Southern+Classics+Series
The easiest test is this: when the book first came out, was it *originally* published as part of this list? If no, then it's not a series on LT. Put another way, have any of the books ever been published in other versions, not under that label/in that list?
Since the Southern Classics editions are republications of things from the 19th and 20th centuries, it's not a series for LT purposes. These books weren't originally published as part of that list.
