It's okay if I count my books off the shelf challenge as part of my 75 for 2013 challenge right?
I just pulled 16 books off my shelves. Not all the books I haven't read but a good start. I've been moaning that my public library only has mysteries and I think there is only one mystery in this pile of TBR books. So off I go. I'm going to add them to my library then read them in some random order. I will not buy a new book until I have read all of these (gasp)! Good thing my birthday is next month :)

I am part of a few challenges and they definitely overlap. I think around here, we make our own rules :)

'Tis true.

Actually, making books do double duty for more than one challenge is quite common, and desirable! Go for it!

Thanks all. Problem #1. I'm reading Solar by Ian McEwan - first on my list of Books off the Shelf and I just can't get into it. Will have to devote a big chunk of the weekend to it because I don't want to put it back on the shelf unfinished.

When this happens to me and after I really give it a try (depending on the book, this can mean a chapter or 50 pages or whatever), I would leave the book for a few days/weeks, read something else and come back to it.

Yes. I normally do this too but I just feel these books have languished on my shelves long enough. It's now or never.
Anyhow, I soldiered on and got to a bit where the protagonist urinates in sub-zero temperatures and gets himself stuck on his zipper. That made me laugh and earned the book another hour's read :)

Solar was terrible!!! I do not recommend it to anyone. Not a great start for my list of books on my shelf.
Think I'll read a library book next.....

Just finished #2 for this challenge and really enjoyed it. I have had The Spanish Doctor by Matt Cohen on my shelf for several years. Glad I liked it because if I hadn't, I might have given up on this challenge.
