Well, It is almost here...I am getting house and home, family and friends ready for the event. The office, where I do most of my writing has to be cleaned up, as I write better, or more, when my surroundings are not chaotic. Since we are expecting Hurricane Sandy Monday, I'm having to shop for that eventuality, and in the process, I will make sure I have lots of easily accessible snacks. I recently ordered a Nutribullet and I awaiting its arrival so my DOH (dear old husband)and I can first go on a liquid detox fast and then continue on drinking healthy juices daily. I'm watching the mail...

At any rate, I want to wish everybody here the best of luck with Nanowrimo.

I have made some progress but of course not nearly as much as I would have liked. There is always something to distract me. Today I have vowed to spend considerable time on writing. My husband has promised to send me to a writer;s retreat that is local, at a gorgeous hotel and in affiliation with Stockton College where I got my degree in Literature and Creative Writing. So some of my esteemed and well-known professors will be there. I believe Stephen Dunn, who was my mentor at school and is a well-known Southern Jersey poet will be there. How wonderful to see him after more than 10 years. And to go there with my Nanowrimo novel in hand. That is the point, my husband and I made a deal that if I get my novel finished by the deadline, he will send me to the retreat. So I am working double time!

Still working but I really doubt I'll make the challenge.

Today I stopped by the office of our Resource Officer (member of the police department who works in our high school). I started to explain that I was writing a novel for the NaNo challenge. A woman who shares his office exclaimed that she knew all about it. She had tried to write a novel a couple of years ago. He was able to explain how the police departments in a town our size is organized and was very helpful. It cracked me up that his partner knew about NaNo!

I linked on to a site on NanoWrimo for the Young Authors and it provided them with information on how to write a novel, first asking them to do character sketches or outlines and so I did it! It helped me to flesh out my MC and now when I need a break from the novel, I take some time to do another character and I think it helps me to make my characters 3 dimensional, give them a life, interests, hobbies, problems, qualities, etc. so when I write about them, they seem to have much more of a place in the world rather than rising from nowhere and just sort of being there.
