I decided to listen to this one. Simon Vance is the reader; I like him pretty well, but I'm not sure of his interpretation of Miss Dunstable.

I've been listening mostly during my workouts. It's a good thing I bought an exercise bike, because I would definitely be embarrassing myself by all the laughs out loud. I really do find AT amusing, urquhart!

You must have a really quiet bike, lg. I listen to techno whilst on my exercise bike and I have it turned up pretty loud. Sometimes I use noise-cancelling headphones so I don't hear the bike as much. Mine is a cheapie :P

I haven't started Framley Parsonage yet. I have a paper version only.

This book is getting funnier & funnier. There's so much gossiping, and Mrs. Proudie is in fine form. The English with their uber-politeness used to deliver the most cutting insults. What is not to love?

I started Framley last night. I am only at Chapter 4 but I'm already enjoying it much more than I did Doctor Thorne. Its great to have Mrs Proudie (and a bit of humour) back!

Hi lg ~ where are you up to? (or have you finished :0 ?!)

I'm up to Chapter 21 and really enjoying the way this story is building as Mark gets further & further out of his depth....

And the party (or should I say "conversazione" at Mrs Proudie's was pretty amusing - with the "Lufton–Grantly alliance" in full swing :)

Hey, I've been on vacation (or should I say holiday?) and I haven't really been listening to FP. Reading an actual book. I'll get back to it this week.

OK, I've just stumbled upon a great way to trick myself into exercising. I can't listen to Framley Parsonage until I get on the bike! Now I'm looking forward to my workout. Thank you, lt!

sorry, I meant "used in order to" as opposed to "used to be" (past).

I'm not the writer myself!

btw, I have only just this week gotten back on the bike, having suffered a foot injury for the past couple of months. I am reading The Yiddish Policeman's Union, which is so damn fascinating I have yet to get back into Framley Parsonage. I expect to some time this week, however.

Yes, I love Commons Question Time just for all the "right honourable gentleman's." Brits, ya gotta love 'em!

Well I finally managed to finish this one. Another charming visit to the English countryside. I'm so happy Miss Dunstable & Dr. Thorne hooked up!

What kept going through my mind was that I wished I had read this book many years ago, prior to my being involved with an Englishman with a very proper mother. I could have used a few tips on how to deal with her. Lucy did a very creditable job of sticking up for herself against the formidable Lady Lufton.

Gotta go shopping for The Small House at Allington now.

Glad you enjoyed Framley Parsonage, littlegeek :)

If you can, try and get a copy with of The Small House which has the little map in the introduction (such as the Penguin Classics edition). I found it was a nice little addition to the story and a useful feature for figuring out what was located where.

Enjoy!

I also listened to Simon Vance's reading of Framley Parsonage, right on the heels of Timothy West's reading of Doctor Thorne. I have to say, I'm a bit Trolloped out at the moement and am taking a short break. I read The Small House at Allington out of order, so I have only The Last Chronicle of Barset left in the series.

***SPOLIER (maybe--not taking any chances!)***

All in all, I think that I preferred Doctor Thorne, but it may have been simply that, by the time I got into Framley Parsonage, I was a bit weary of snobbish mothers preventing their sons from marrying the virtuous young women they loved. But at least Lucy didn't inherit an unexpected fortune that "persuaded" Lady Lufton to accept her. And I enjoyed the return of Miss Dunstable.

I just started Framley Parsonage. Only about 3 chapters in, but already I like it better than Doctor Thorne (which seems to be a common theme on this thread). I was also really happy to see that Mrs. Proudie is back, and Miss Dunstable.

Yeah I loved Miss Dunstable and Mrs Proudie but I have only read Framley Parsonage and The Warden in the chronicles of barsetshire but I loved them! I was so glad that Dr. Thorne and Mrs Dunstble ended up together especially since they fit together so well even though they don't realise at first!
