I highly recommend that everyone check out the Moby Dick Big read at http://www.mobydickbigread.com/. I started listening to it and found myself throughly enjoying it. I never thought I would read Moby Dick, but now, here I am, finding myself entranced and sad when each day's chapter is ending.

In short, this project is a free offering, with a chapter a day being posted. Each chapter is read by someone new (which admittedly is a little jarring that Ishmael has a different voice each chapter), some famous (Stephen Fry, for example) and some apparently not. So far, most readers have been British, which actually seems fitting for this old book.

Since there are 135 chapters, one posted per day, I believe I'll be listening through January.

I second this recommendation! I'm still catching up, but am enjoying it very much. I've never read Moby Dick, but I think one chapter a day is the way to go.

I've been downloading the chapters via iTunes, but don't miss the beautiful artwork posted at the main website each day http://www.mobydickbigread.com/

I also downloaded Project Gutenberg #2701 (for when I want to double-check something). There are definitions and quotations at the beginning of the text that were not included in the big read and are well worth reading.
