Here's a v. rough go at this; there are some years where I simply can't choose. Other years where the most memorable book for me probably has almost zero literary merit -- but it was more compelling reading than many "literary works" published then. This includes plays, poetry and non-fiction, as I don't tend to discriminate in my reading.

You'll have to forgive the fact that some of the touchstones are buggered up. I can't change them, as in every single case, I'm offered a choice of the same six Harry Potter-related titles, regardless of what the title is, and I can't "force" them; nor do I have the patience to go back in and manually remove all the brackets I so carefully added....

ETA: And now I notice that despite the touchstones being visible on the right hand side of this page before I hit post/save, the links vanish when I post it. Oh well, so be it.

I know it's beside the point, but read 2002 (Word Freak), 1953, 1935, 1902; own and have started 1905 and 1980; are unfamiliar with most of the rest.
