Since I was enjoying a class of cabernet sauvignon while trying to think of a word for the new round, let's make cabernet the word to rhyme (there's many more options than with sauvignon, especially if you try to rhyme the nasalized last syllable).
So, cabernet it is...

Do your tasting notes include "hints of dried grass"?

RE:
#2 - I thought hits of hay came more frequently from the other Sauvignon, the Blanc one. But I'm no oenologist. Anyway, it's not hay.
#3 - According to Sally Bowles, it's nothing but a cabaret. Not right, but it gives me a great idea for a name for a new wine bar - The Cabernet Cabaret.

// re #2, our Earth Fare (organic and relevant grocery store) has a wine section where they post descriptions of some of the wines. I often chuckle reading them and think that I could have a great time writing these descriptions. Does "hint of forest floor" mean "odor of bear droppings"? //

Watch out for that bouncing bullet.

That would be better than eating curds and this non-wine substance.

This two-syllable word might refer to Peter Shaffer's Equus or a 2011 Tony-winning work by Nick Stafford.

//Howdy, Joyce, great to see you again!//

Good to be back. Perhaps we should enjoy our Cabernet at a dance recital.

RE:
#5 - Watch out for that bullet, but also make sure you don't get caught in a Ricochet Romance. Not Ricochet.
#6 - Poor Little Miss Muffet! Nothing to accompany her nice glass of cabernet except a dish of curds and whey. Not whey.
#7 - Maybe we should include Richard the III in the horseplay category too. After all, the doomed King was willing to exchange England for an old nag. Not horseplay.
#8 - Maybe it would be best to restrict imbibing to intermission at the ballet. Drinking and dancing can be dangerous, as anyone who's been to a wild wedding reception can attest to. Not ballet.

NOT - hay, cabaret, ricochet, whey, horseplay, ballet
ALPHA NOT - ballet, cabaret, hay, horseplay, ricochet

Oh dear, I've got a loose thread. I better not pull it, my clothes might unravel?

Then there could be a public fight disturbing others?

Ach, it's so hot maybe I should go live with Grandfather and Heidi in a little pointed-roof Swiss house.

(Not a guess, just an entry in
the "Nash v. Perkins" competition)

I never heard of 'cabernet';
I never hope to hear
Of it, but I can tell you I
Would not drink it PLUS beer.

RE:
#11 - One of the disagreeable side effects of entering into an affray (or even a melee) is that one's clothes tend to fray. Not affray, melee, fray.
#12 - Can you yodel? Or at least climb the nearest Alp in your dirndl singing "The hills are alive..."? If not, I'd not suggest a summer vacation in a chalet.

NOT - hay, cabaret, ricochet, whey, horseplay, ballet, affray, melee, fray, chalet
ALPHA NOT - affray, ballet, cabaret, chalet, fray, hay, horseplay, melee, ricochet

This weekend, I'm hosting a midnight potluck dinner party. I'm making salmon and egg pudding and icemilk.

three guesses

Don't know if it's counted as just one
Word, but I thought it would be fun
To guess the phrase __ __ __ / __ __, a Lat-
-in phrase used (too?) heavily (if that
Is your objeciton to it, in English, and rough-
-ly equal to "in itself", "intrinsically". Not too tough
To identify, is it?Just like "What gives?"
("Quid datur?"). Shows that Latin still lives!

I'm working on #14 (one of three to go) and #15, not MIA. Bear with me...

While going through the ______ line, I snubbed the ____, which shouted indignantly, "What am I, chopped liver?"

King Arthur's half-sister, Morgan (Morgane, Morgaine, Morgana, etc) was reputed to be a magical fairy and may have also been called "wild or crazy acting".

Twofer.

RE:
#14 - I know you'll be serving glace at your soiree, and I'm thinking you might also put out some salmon pate, though I'm not sure about that guess.
#15 - My Latin is not great, but I have enough to know that Crambo's word (phrase) isn't correct per se.
#17 - That'll teach you to give the pate a cold shoulder at the buffet. Those bowls of chopped chicken liver all think they're Borscht Belt comedians.
#18 - Morgan le Fey was someone I'd not want to have as a sibling that's for sure. I'd prefer a sister who's less outre and way less scary.

NOT - hay, cabaret, ricochet, whey, horseplay, ballet, affray, melee, fray, chalet, glace, soiree, pate, per so, pate, buffet, fey, outre
ALPHA NOT - affray, ballet, buffet, cabaret, chalet, fey, fray, glace, hay, horseplay, melee, outre, pate, per se, ricochet, soiree

Hint: All those guesses for words that come from French are on the right track.

I used to think of this headgear as typical of the beatnik poet, but it's very practical and is worn in many military outfits.

21jpyvr
heinäkuu 21, 2012, 8:47 am

RE: #20 - You mean military outfits like those of Sgt. Barry Sadler when he sang his execrable Ballad of the Green Berets? Non, non, non...

NOT - hay, cabaret, ricochet, whey, horseplay, ballet, affray, melee, fray, chalet, glace, soiree, pate, per so, pate, buffet, fey, outre, beret
ALPHA NOT - affray, ballet, beret, buffet, cabaret, chalet, fey, fray, glace, hay, horseplay, melee, outre, pate, per se, ricochet, soiree

We went to a play last night and parked our own car rather than using the service that would park it for us.

"__ __ __ __, Team, __ __ __ __!" was on banners flown by (too few) New York Giants baseball fans in 1957 at the franchiseʻs last Polo Grounds home game. The team (or its management) ignored them and moved, as planned, to San Francisco.

RE:
#22 - It was a smart move, Joyce, not to use the valet. So smart that it makes you a winner. Crambo's word was valet.
#23 - I'm guessing that what they wanted the Giants to do was stay. Not a winner.

Over to Joyce...

Congrats, Joyce!

fyi, at my midnight soiree, I served salmon souffle and lemon sorbet.

27jpyvr

Thanks Jenni for correcting me on sorbet - but I guess glace (accent aigu) isn't too far off.

28rodneyvc

#26 My guess for the salmon and egg pudding was 'mornay'!

29Jenni_Canuck
heinäkuu 24, 2012, 6:28 pm

#27 & 28 ~ We could have had two more amazing dishes if you'd been there! Soufflé, mornay, sorbet and glacé (not to mention the paté and other delightful non-rhyming foods). Next time, I'll send the invitations earlier so you have time to not only make these luscious recipes but also to make the necessary arrangements to carry these delicate and perishable delights safely to Toronto! :-)

30Citizenjoyce
heinäkuu 25, 2012, 12:57 am

So we'd have time to make all the delightful recipes? Oh, I thought that was up to you. I was rather looking forward to your salmon and sorbet. I guess I'll stick with humus, I'm real good at that, and it goes lovely with Cabernet even if it doesn't rhyme.
