Looks like our July ReadaThing will start around July 26th and run for a week. Specific dates and times will be announced later this week (it's the time zone challenge, as usual).
In the meantime, I'd like to get a feel for who wants a theme, or multiple themes or no theme at all?
Of course, any theme would be entirely voluntary, so there is that.

Just to clarify, the top one, being in the negative, if I say "No" am I really saying that yes, I /would/ participate in a theme? 'Cause I'm always for themes, they help you spread out your reading boundaries a little bit each time.

#5 voting YES on number one does indicate you'd be interested in a theme. Thanks for asking.

But the question reads "I am not interested in a theme for ReadaThing"
So if I say Yes, I am really saying "I am not interested"...
In order to read the way you are saying, you should have skipped the not in the sentence.

argh. if you vote YES you are not interested, if you vote NO you are interested in a theme. Obviously I'm half asleep or something :(

Theme suggestion - sport eg nonfiction such as biography or fiction with loose connection eg Dick Francis.

I like the idea of a summer theme; perhaps vacation, travel books, something like that?

Sports would also be a good theme, since the RaT will take place during the 2012 Olympics.

I probably will not participate in a theme as my goal is to get some of my ever growing stacks of "to be read" books read. Arg.

I'm with you there maggie1944! But I'm determined to find a way to squeeze my TBR books into any theme the group comes up with.
Are you part of the BOMBS—Books Off My Book Shelf group? I'm finding them very inspirational:

Good for you - I guess. But no book on any of my shelves will ever get off - unless it gets stolen. ;-)
P.s.: and that has happened. Believe me.

Matt, it just means "off the TBR shelf", not actually going away!
They're going to have to pry my books out of my cold dead fingers!

For me, I have a lot of books that I have no idea whether I'll actually like - I got them because they were "free" (Sunday bag day at the library sale, mostly). So part of my BOMBS is deciding whether this book is a keeper. If it is, it goes right back on the shelf - if I had to drag myself through to the ending (or couldn't - very rare, that), it goes _away_ and I don't have to deal with it any more. So far it's about 90-10 keepers, but I have gotten rid of some amazing stinkers... (I'm not in the BOMBS group, but I'm doing it within the 75 Books Challenge).

Bumping right back at you ;-) Must there be a theme?

Personally, I'm going with the "Too Hot To Decide Upon A Theme & Just Grabbing Books and Cold Drinks."
For others in the Southern Hemisphere, you can go with the "Too Cold To Decide Upon A Theme & Just Grabbing Books and Hot Drinks."
My area is in the triple digits today. Long term outlook is also TOO BLEEPIN' HOT!!

If someone feels like reading on a theme and if no theme is selected, we have the "Big Travels" as a challenge theme for the summer months down in the Club Read http://www.librarything.com/topic/139296

We could have a theme just for the few of us that like them...
Thanks for the link, 25 AnnieMod, just in case.

If you like a theme, sure, go right ahead. I don't actively dislike themes, just way to tired to think one up.

I don't care if there is a theme or not. I just read what I have. I don't let a theme dictate what I am going to read because then that requires me to spend more time going through my books and trying to find something that fits the theme and hoping I really want to read it. That is just my opinion.

I signed up for a time slot, and I'm committing myself to reading "what I have". Very intelligent idea! Plus I am committing myself to getting some books off the TBR piles. And reading what I bought the other day, too!

This may be a funny way of coming up with a theme, but I thought I would combine this fun activity with either reading a) A Jane Austen novel pertaining to a yarn swap I'm involved in on another website or b) reading a book I'm planning on reviewing. I know, I know, both these options are absurdly utilitarian, but.... it's something! ;p
