Not strictly speaking cryptic, but certainly the clues and answers appear to have been well hidden!

Ah, as is so often the case when shown the answer, there comes a feeling of "aw, should've got that". Although the indirect anagram of finding the right Italian city and then anagramming it might have been a step beyond the norm. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

It's the 'and lit.' aspect that makes them so good.

Right, Rebekah Brooks and Sir Paul Stephenson have gone, Rupert Murdoch is teetering, who's next? Curriculum includes video drama in crisis, reveals leader (5, 7).

I can see a partial anagram there with 'video drama' but, if it's who I think it is, can't see where to get a C (from curriculum?) and N from. At any rate, he's probably safe, despite association with One who edited short column on Sunday (4, 7).

Oh, completely off topic, I couldn't resist another anagram from elsewhere in the news:

Yes, agree about the Brooks clue. Presumably Anarche, as well as being a bit of a maverick, also has it in for victims (Anarche also being an anagram for spider).
