Not strictly speaking cryptic, but certainly the clues and answers appear to have been well hidden!

Proprietor getting away with murder, hurt round bent copper. (6, 7) Not very elegant, but it just about sums it up.

How about:

Publisher's later torn to pieces all round the country, following fresh wrongdoing (4, 13)

Tainted force goes underground, civil around Italian city in uproar to a degree. (12, 6)

Um, you've gone past my solving level with that one, I'm afraid :^P

(For the benefit of anyone else happening upon this thread, the earlier ones were 2. Rebekah, 3. Brooks, 5. Rupert Murdoch, 6. News International)

>7 ed.pendragon:. Metropolitan Police (METRO + POLITE around NAPOLI + Celsius/Centigrade).
>8 dtw42:. Some senior figures in the Met are suspected of lack of detailed investigation into past allegations of NOTW phone hacking, perhaps due to a former NOTW deputy editor who, coincidentally, was appointed to an advisory role to those same senior figures. But I suspect you all know that, having followed the daily revelations.

Ah, as is so often the case when shown the answer, there comes a feeling of "aw, should've got that". Although the indirect anagram of finding the right Italian city and then anagramming it might have been a step beyond the norm. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Bobby’s loss in paper – The Sun, strangely (3, 4, 10)

> 11 That's a pair (with #6) of quite brilliant clues, dtw42

Can't resist an anagram, me. Glad to see this wasn't just me and ed.p talking among ourselves :^D

It's the 'and lit.' aspect that makes them so good.

Right, Rebekah Brooks and Sir Paul Stephenson have gone, Rupert Murdoch is teetering, who's next? Curriculum includes video drama in crisis, reveals leader (5, 7).

heinäkuu 18, 2011, 5:39 pm

I can see a partial anagram there with 'video drama' but, if it's who I think it is, can't see where to get a C (from curriculum?) and N from. At any rate, he's probably safe, despite association with One who edited short column on Sunday (4, 7).

heinäkuu 18, 2011, 5:51 pm

Oh, completely off topic, I couldn't resist another anagram from elsewhere in the news:

PS: berk chav name here (6, 5, 7)

18ed.pendragon

NC=National Curriculum. Sorry, education-speak; old habits die hard.
4, 7 Brilliant! Much, much better than Chief demolishes shanty--poor Joe! (4, 5)

NC=National Curriculum.

Ah, so it does, of course. Well, I think we've pretty much covered everyone involved now! :^)

Just to resurrect the whole dreary saga, one of the setters in the i newspaper this week seemed to be channelling this thread:

Love 24 across as a standalone, but, yes, pretty ingenious. Would never have got 7 down, though: Glomeruli? Sounds like a dwarf from LOTR.

i am justin beibers girlfriend

>21 ed.pendragon:: And their clue for Brooks was a bit Private-Eyeish for a daily. No, I must admit I only got 7 down after doing a search on G?O?E?U?I – I'd never heard of it either.

>22 SKYANN:: Of course you are. And if you only spell his surname right, he might be your boyfriend right back.

>22 SKYANN:
Good to see your library, SKYANN, and those five out of six titles dedicated to Justin. Guessing you just haven't got round to adding those crossword compilations yet.

>23 dtw42:
Yes, agree about the Brooks clue. Presumably Anarche, as well as being a bit of a maverick, also has it in for victims (Anarche also being an anagram for spider).
