really good dinosaur picture books? fiction or non-fiction?

I was thinking about reading the first Magic Tree House book to my 5-year-old but I want to use it thematically to explore dinosaurs further. Does anyone have any suggestions for really good dinosaur picture books?

I'm familiar with a bunch of really simple ones...picture books turned into board books by Byron Barton, Paul Strickland and Bernard Most as well as Jane Yolen's How Do Dinosaurs... manners series...but I'd like more stories about dinosaurs (When Dinosaurs Came with Everything is a favorite around here and we'll probably try Danny and the Dinosaur) as well as some simple non-fiction.

We have Don't Know Much About Dinosaurs that has a lot of information. It might be too much for a 5 year old but it's easy to read in bits and pieces.

We have had this book from the library The Big Book of Dinosaurs from DK Publishing. It has great pictures and has similar information to the other one I mentioned.

The Dinotopia series is fantastic, although older reading than a picture book. If you're reading Magic Tree House to him and he loves dinosaurs, he'll love Dinotopia. The author did all the drawing himself and they are fantastic. The city really comes alive as do the dinosaurs. The touchstone is wrong, Dinotopia is a title by itself and there are two or three other titles after it.

#3> I forgot completely about the Dinotopia books...probably because mine are still in a box somewhere. I don't remember the text well enough to know if it will work for her or not but I am game to get the from the library and find out.

Daughter is not particularly into dinosaurs - her interests are ballet and fairies. Our library catalogs very few of its juvenile paperbacks though, so they are catch as catch can. From what I've seen, I might be willing to read the Flower Fairy chapter books and I've heard surprisingly decent things about the Disney Fairies chapter books but I'll leave her to discover the Rainbow Magic books on her own. But I digress.

All Aboard the Dinotrain by Deb Lund (or any of the others in that series), Time Train by Paul Fleishman and Big Noisy Book of Dinosaurs by Harriet Blackford are also great choices.

One logical choice might be the Magic Tree House Fact Tracker that goes with the first book -- I can't figure out how to touchstone it properly but it's "The Magic Tree House Fact Tracker #1: Dinosaurs" by Will Osborne. We haven't used that particular one but my son generally really likes the fact trackers and study guides.

The Magic School Bus in the Time of the Dinosaurs is another fun one. My kids adore anything with Ms. Frizzle, and the format is such that you can read the simple story line or explore all the extra details present on the page as it suits your child's interest.
