From the author: "The following quote came to me courtesy of a fortune cookie. 'A mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimension.' It's been taped over the webcam on my laptop ever since.

I believe the divine speaks whenever we can stop long enough to pay attention--even in a Chinese restaurant. The quote, by Oliver Wendell Holmes, reminds me how writing and contemplation stretch me, and because of that I am not the same person today I was yesterday. I'm amazed that each day I can hardly wait to get up and do it all over again.

Things I hold in high regard are: public libraries, cats, reading to your kids, working for a change by being involved in your community, and a good cup of French Roast."
