About My Library: This is Library v3.0. Library v1.0 was destroyed on 14 January 2003 when a frozen pipe in the apartment above mine thawed and burst, sending water cascading across my bookcases. In an remarkable spasm of goodwill, my landlords compensated me for the full value of the books, a sum that allowed me to restart my library and take a month-long trip to Paris.

The deluge washed away a lot of the "dead" parts of my library and gave me the chance to replace books I was no longer interested in. In general, Library v2.0 was architecture-centric, whereas v1.0 was history-centric, which is a pretty good reflection of how my interests have changed over the last decade.

Library v3.0 came into being the following year with the addition of my wife's art history, historic preservation and fiction (read: chick lit) collection.
