About My Library

My library includes everything that I own (in whatever form), that I read in the past (either recorded or remembered, and I'm sure I've missed hundreds), and that I want to read - I use collections to sort them into manageable groups.

My reading interests lean heavily towards fiction - a generous amount of post-apocalyptic, world-going-to-hell stuff, plus mysteries, fantasy/sci-fi, general fiction & literature, a little romance - with the occasional non-fiction title thrown in for good measure, often about gardening or some aspect of homesteading, because perhaps the world really WILL go to hell someday, or the zombies will show up, and I’ll have to become self-sufficient. <insert eye roll from long-suffering partner who wonders what the heck it is with me and zombies...>

About Me

I live in the Seattle area with my partner of nearly 10 years and our three dogs. In addition, we have three human children - one mine, two his - who are all in their 20s and in various stages of being launched.

I “retired” from being a stay-at-home mom when my son started college two years ago and am still trying to figure out what that makes me now. I’m an active volunteer, in part because I have a hard time saying no, and I spend my free time enjoying books (duh!), needlecrafts, a few too many streaming services, and - until recently - an 18-year-old World of Warcraft habit, which my kid says makes me a "big ol' nerd". I've spent far more time reading than playing recently, though, which might mean I've finally broken that habit, but it's too soon to tell.

My partner Jeff and I are a little more than halfway through building a house on an island near Seattle; he's an architect, and we met 18 years ago when I hired his firm to design my current house. We became and stayed friends, and some years later when we both found ourselves single, one thing led to another and now here we are. Building this new house together is a very different experience - for one thing, now he's working WITH me, not FOR me, so I have to compromise! Wretched. 😀 But we still like each other, and it's only 10 more months until we move in, so I think we'll make it.

I joined LT way back in 2008, I think, and then promptly disappeared from the site for 14 years and just came back last fall because I was getting sick of all the advertising on That Other Site (even though I still use it). I couldn’t remember what email I used with my old account so I just made a new one. <shrug> I spent some time making my library “usable”, then discovered Groups and Challenges, and now happily (try to) keep up with a few too many threads. It's really fun to hang out with so many book lovers, even virtually.

I’m a compulsive organizer, so LT deeply feeds my soul that way… my priority at the moment is tweaking the accuracy of my library and continuing to read a lot, but I’m not too picky beyond that. As I explore different challenges here, though, I can imagine that might change.
