Tietoja minustaSince 1946 the Middle East Institute has been an important conduit of information between Middle Eastern nations and American policymakers, organizations and the public. We strive to increase knowledge of the Middle East among our own citizens and to promote understanding between the peoples of the Middle East and America. Today we play a vital and unique role in expanding the dialogue beyond Washington, DC, and actively with organizations in the Middle East. Our Public Policy Center and Department of Programs present programs with top regional experts and officials from the US and foreign governments. The George Camp Keiser Library has one of the most significant English-language collections on the Middle East. We publish quarterly one of the most prestigious journals on the Middle East, The Middle East Journal. MEI's Department of Language and Regional Studies offers courses in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Turkish and seminars highlighting the history, literature and culture of the Middle East.

Tietoja kirjastostaniThe George Camp Keiser Library is located in a pleasant converted nineteenth century coach house overlooking the garden of the Middle East Institute at 1761 N Street, NW, Washington, DC.

The Library has a collection of about 25,000 books in Western languages and more than 300 periodicals. It has one of the most significant collections of English language materials on the Middle East.

The Library specializes in current events, history, culture, economics, religion, politics, and languages of the Middle East. The Middle East is defined by the Institute as those countries stretching from Morocco to Pakistan, including Turkey and the countries of Central Asia. The Library has especially good collections on Islam and Islamic art.

We offer free in-house use of the library to the public and free WiFi. Full members of the Middle East Institute are allowed to borrow books. We also offer virtual reference services here: Reference Chat
