About My Library

I have always been enchanted by books of sci/fi fantasy. My beloved books well out number the people in my life (although I am very lucky to have some very special people), and I certainly could never try to list them all! I'm the kind of person that re-reads favorites over and over, like visiting old friends.

Now that I am an author myself, I do not read books in the paranormal fantasy genre while I am writing, because I do not want outside influence on my work, and writing fills all of my fantasy needs (it's an obsession really). As a result, I have not read the recent influx of vampire books - or many vampire books at all really. Bram Stoker's Dracula was the first I had read, & Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles are my favorites in the genre.

About Me

Hello, I'm Melanie Nowak, author of the venomous vampire series ALMOST HUMAN. I'm also a happily married mother of 2 sweet boys. My husband and I have been together for over 27 years, and are originally from Long Island in New York, but now live on a peaceful mountaintop in the forest of upstate New York.

I've always had a vivid imagination and a fascination for the paranormal. Acting and singing in theatrical productions throughout college and in my church has always been a love of mine as well. However, upon conceiving the idea for my ALMOST HUMAN series of books, I've discovered a previously unknown passion for writing!

I hold a Master's degree in Library Science, and at one time thought to persue a career as a school librarian. However, the writing muse calls to me so strongly it cannot be denied. Right now I am blessed to be able to stay home with my family and bring my characters to life, telling their story and sharing my passion for fantasy with readers all over the world :-)
