About My Library
His books focused on East Asia, Medieval Studies, World Religions, Philosophy and Sociology. As a person with wide-ranging interests, he also had books on electronic circuitry.
Duane's library was preserved by his wife. Upon her death, it became available for cataloging. Hopefully someone will be found who would want some of his collection.
About Me
He was born in Austin, Minn., in 1937, to the late Frank and Irene (Schwartz) Nelson. Twin brother Darwin Nelson.
He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., in 1959 and married his classmate, Marian Musil. They moved to Naperville, Ill. where Duane was a professor of Comparative Religion.
Duane and Marion bought land in rural Wisconsin near Spring Green. Duane remodeled a large barn into living spaces and a large space where his wife operated an import shop, Global View. The shop featured mostly hand crafted items from India, Nepal and Indonesia from craftworkers with whom they developed an ongoing personal relationship over more than 40 years of trips to these countries.
Global View, the Mahayana Dharma Center, and the Medicine Buddha Healing Center grew from contacts Marion and Duane made in Asia. In 1991, they founded the Mahayana Dharma Center for the teaching of Buddhist philosophy. Ten years later, the Medicine Buddha Healing Center, utilizing Tibetan doctors trained at the Dalai Lama’s medical school in Dharamsala, India, was established.
In June 2008,Duane O. Nelson, age 69 of Avoca, made his passage
into the light surrounded by family and close friends. Duane’s
life will be celebrated at IO a.m. on July 13, 2008, at the
MAHAYANA DHARMA CENTER.
