About Me
I was born in Lakewood, Washington, at the dawn of the 1970s and was adopted by my mother, Leslie, and father, Ron, who were living in Casper, Wyoming, at the time. My folks met on the Rimrocks in Billings, Montana, in 1964 -- 42 years before I would move here to be with the woman who became my wife. Life conjures some pretty amazing circles sometimes.

In the early '70s, my folks did the all-American thing: They divorced. Mom and I moved to Texas, where she married Charles Clines, who was a sportswriter at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. His encouragement, plus my own proclivity for language and writing, set me on my professional course as a writer and editor.

Once I'd freed myself from the tether of school and childhood, I set out to see as much of the country as I could see as a starving journalist. I worked at newspapers in Texas, Alaska, Kentucky, Ohio, California, Washington. I mostly worked on copy desks, but I managed to fit a few choice writing assignments into my career. I saw Nome, Alaska, on a bitterly cold April day in 1992. I covered a spectacularly bad Oakland Raiders season. I chatted with Craig T. Nelson at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (tough gig, that).

In 2006, I moved to Montana to be with Angie. And here I remain, happily.
