Books Incorrectly Categorized by Libraries as Children's Books

Kuvaus
A book that you've found in the children's section of some library that would be more suitable in another section. The reason you consider the book wrongly assigned may be its unsuitable content or simply that it obviously "fits" better in some other section. A reason must be given for the book to be accepted. The proper category for the book must also be given.

themulhern: See review: https://www.librarything.com/work/347535/reviews/228848088 . The part where the teenage hero has to leave his father tied up in a pipe having his toes eaten by rats, and many other tough incidents, make this a YA book.

themulhern: Just too much suffering and slaughter in this one. The cover illustration is a bit deceptive.

themulhern: A good book, but the wheelbarrow full of severed limbs, soldiers with fatal gangrene, one young Union soldier starved to death in a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp all make this a a YA book.

themulhern: There is one one-page spread where a sailor is being tortured to death. Another page shows a battle scene, legs gone, people screaming, amputations.

themulhern: This sequel to Lawrence's "The Wreckers" is written for the same age level as that book and definitely belongs in the YA section.

themulhern: This is a sequel to Lawrence's "The Wreckers" and is in some ways even more unsettling. Belong is YA.

themulhern: The prostitution, the death of the naive teenager from the country by drowning early in the book, make it much more suitable for the YA section.

themulhern: Nothing inappropriate for children in this book, just dry and dense. Where there is YA non-fiction, belongs there. 128 pages, black and white photographs for illustration.

themulhern: While lavishly illustrated, the vocabulary in the text makes no concession to that of a chlld, while the description of crucifixion is terrifying.
