Like similar books Civil War Diary, Civil War Diary Love Letter Quilts, and Farmer's Wife Sampler,this book is nice to read, but as far as patterns go, it leaves a lot to be desired. I pretty much knew this before I ordered it, but it would still be nice to have the block directions without the effort of making templates. But, if you want the feel of making quilts like they did in the 40's, this is your book. At least now you don't have to break out the cardboard cereal box to make your templates!… (lisätietoja)

This is a companion book to the Civil War Diary Quilt.

There are 121 blocks featured in the book and they are a little easier to make than the blocks featured in the diary book. You can use the blocks interchangeably in your quilt. Every two page spread consists of a quilt block on one page and excerpts of a letter from a soldier to a woman. Letters from soldiers on both sides of the conflict are featured.

This is a fabulous history book. I was surprised at how positive the soldiers felt about the fighting. They truly believed in what they were doing. It is an easy read because you can read a few pages, put it down and not have to remember where you left off. The blocks are colored which suggests a colorway to follow if you are going to make the quilt.

I LOVE this book. Every two page spread consists of a quilt block on one page and a diary entry from a woman who lived during the war. Women from both sides of the conflict are featured. Many of the blocks I was familiar with but some I was not. I don't know if Ms. Youngs created some blocks or if my block knowledge is small.

This book is not only a quilt book but a history book. I learned a few things about life during the war that I never obtained from the history books we all were required to read in elementary school. Also, it is an easy read because you can read a few pages, put it down and not have to remember where you left off. I could not stop flipping through the pages looking at the blocks. When I bought the book I knew that I had to make this quilt.

Ms. Youngs did a great job of marrying the history of the civil war with quilting. She obviously did a ton of research in order to find the diaries. She has made a great contribution to the history of the war. I highly recommend this book.… (lisätietoja)
