I found this book offensive as it had the European-American children playing 'Indian' and speaking in broken English. The author also referred to the war whoop as a 'savage noise.' One interesting thing about this book - the boys would not indulge in smoking the peace pipe because they thought Indian boys would never smoke as it would stunt their growth. But in all other respects, it was a typical children's story with children playing make-believe and getting dressed up. Because of the offensive nature of this online book, I would most definitely not use this book in any type of curriculum unless I were to use it to portray racism. In fact, one could use this book to illustrate how Native Americans were viewed by European-Americans back in the early 1900s.… (lisätietoja)
