This was a truly disappointing read. The description suggested to me a book that would be empowering; instead the book constantly focused on women/girls as victims—apparently no one is immune—even in the sections of the book that were specifically supposed to be empowering. Moreover, the book was just poorly written—a lot of telling and not enough details and non-sequesters. The author tried to cover a lot of material and did most of it very superficially. Most annoying is that the book felt like it was advice from someone’s mom. At times, it's much too preachy. I learned way too much about the author’s own personal struggles. This book would have been much better with more details, say about advertising, important historical events, contemporary role models of non-traditionally beautiful or stylish women. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone, though I’m sure it is geared to middle school or young high school girls.… (lisätietoja)
