Image credit: Daniel Cosgrove Waterland (14 February 1683, Walesby, Lincolnshire – 1740) was an English theologian. He was born at Walesby Rectory, Lincolnshire, England, and educated in Lincoln and at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he graduated BA in 1703 and MA in 1706. He took orders, and obtained various preferments, becoming Master of Magdalene College in 1714, Chancellor of York in 1722, and Archdeacon of Middlesex in 1730. He was an acute and able controversialist on behalf of the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity, on which he wrote several treatises. He was also the author of a History of the Athanasian Creed (1724).
