While I found this angst-filled romance about a down-and-out rock star and his childhood-friend-turned-Catholic-Priest compelling, I marked it way down for the harmful gay stereotype. The gay priest broke his vows and had sex with a man. I don’t see why Jazz couldn’t have quit the priesthood before having sex with Nicky, but I guess that would have led to fewer sex scenes in the book. So the gay priest is portrayed as someone who can’t control his sexual desires. That’s the sort of gay stereotype that needs to die. The book tries to soften it, saying things like it would be “the same for a straight priest and a woman,” but it isn’t the same, because the harmful stereotype just isn’t there in that situation. Not to mention I predicted the end from Chapter 2, but since this isn’t a mystery I guess I can’t really complain.… (lisätietoja)

A beautifully written gay romance between two men that started 17 years before the point where the story picks up. Two 17 year old best friends become lovers before one moves away following his dream of becoming a rock star, who winds up a drug addict courtesy of his groups manager. The other moves away and becomes a Catholic priest. Their paths cross years later and....

After Fated, my expectations were high, but this one fell short for me. Isaac's character was still mostly abstract to me. Towards the end I got some kind of vibe from him finally, that little uh... lets call it a glitch, definitely helped me get a grasp on their connection with Hart. Too little, too late though. That doesn't mean I didn't feel for Hart when the shit hit the fan.

As for the murder investigation, it wasn't nearly as exciting as the first one.And I really missed Freddy, Hart's partner. They were such a good pair in book 1 during the investigation. She did pop in a little, but only as a friend to Hart, and I really like that they became friends after what went down, but I missed them working together.

There might be a third book and I probably will read it, cause I'm still curious.
