nonfiction - last messages received before (1) unexpected deaths, (2) suicides, (3) falling outs between friends/family/lovers, coupled with vibrant, hand-drawn illustration. Don't miss the letters in the back detailing how the blog has helped people coping with their own personal losses.

This is a heart-felt compilation of final messages sent or said to people. The young creator of the social media Tumblr, Emily Trunko, had the idea to gather these posts into a book. There are dozens of final messages in this book between ex-lovers, ex-friends, and often because of untimely deaths. Each page has a different last message, many pages have a footer explaining the final message. The book is beautifully illustrated by Zoe Ingram, which truly adds to the emotional effect this book has on its readers. All of the posts are anonymous, yet incredibly relatable to anyone who has lost someone in their lives. This book covers the modern issue of texting and emails, and shows the impact words can have on the people you leave behind. At the end of the book there is a small section titled "The Last Message Received Saved my Life" where people have "posted" how well this book helped them cope with their own loss or depression, and in some cases literally kept them from committing suicide.

While the subject matter is dark, the colorful pages are a nice offset, almost comforting in the sense to remind the reader they are not alone. Following the content there is a 4 page resources section including hotlines, websites, and books. The resources vary including: child abuse, cancer, domestic violence, suicide prevention, substance abuse and many more. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone 7th grade and above. This is a well put together book to remind people that they are not alone. It also highlights the many positive connections we can have with other people through the internet.

10. I grabbed Dear My Blank, from the poetry section, which as it turns out is a book full of submissions to a blog where people write letters to other people anonymously. The letters are typically focused on relationships, and would speak well to pre-teens and young teenagers. The text is artsy, with some pictures around some letters. It looks like a construction paper project. Could be fun for a poetry project, or discussing the different types of poetry that exist (A lesson on how poetry doesn't necessarily have to rhyme, for example).… (lisätietoja)
