This is an excellent collection of macabre tales. Out of 25 stories, only one of them failed to impress me, and that one was quite short. Of the rest, there is a nice variety of styles, from creature horror ( "The Weird Old Hole" ), to eerie Twilight Zone fantasy ( "The Returns of Johnny Mapleseed" ), science fiction ( "The Christmas Clones"), disturbing existential horror (" Awakening of No Return"), weird horror ( "The Road to Schwarmerei" ), to gallows humor ( "Graveside Friday Night" ). All of these tales are outstanding, but Thomas is at his best with ghost stories. One of these, called "Ariadne's Hair", is a masterpiece and closes out the book in terrifying fashion.

All in all, this is a terrific read, and I recommend it to fans of subtle, understated horror.… (lisätietoja)
