I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy novel--and I've been feeling "meh" about a lot of fantasy for a number of years. I've found a lack of fresh ideas to be plaguing the genre, but Orison stood out for me as something different from the rest of the pack. The writing is top-notch and the pace fast and engaging. I particularly liked the characters, especially Wrynn, and really became invested in what happened to them. My only complaint is that it seemed too short and gone too quickly! This is a fast-paced adventure fantasy with great worldbuilding and a rich cast of characters. I don't think there's a single sleepy moment in it.
This book was of particular interest to me because I am also writing a fantasy which features a cult of dragons (mine has only a little in common with this one). The dragons are powerful, not friendly, and the human characters would generally rather not get in their way, or become a pawn in their schemes.
