I have a few other introductions to Python, but this one was especially appealing to me. Its example applications are very practical, and it covers regular expressions, file handling, web scraping, working with MSWord and MS Excel files, and handling image files and e-mails.

I was surprised to see a book on just recursion--I would've thought that there wouldn't be enough content--but the book is packed with projects and examples. I particularly like the section on fractals. The explanation of tail recursion was clear and easy to understand.

Well, I think highly of this book, and I look forward to try some of the things in it. I'm not sure a beginner can follow all of it, but fortunately I'm not a beginner.
The book is more focused in doing things than in teaching all about python, so if you are interested in thoroughly learning the language you are going to need more than this book. Recommended.

An Excellent book. This book walks through implementation and hacking of several classical ciphers in Python. Along the way, it teaches readers how to manipulate the essential Python data types - string, list, dictionarie and tuple. It is also offers good lessons for problem solving with non-trivial data structures.

Would recommend to anyone interested in the history of Cryptography.
